As far as I know, they were made from wood and leather. Sometimes they had bronze chape and mouth piece. Check this original scabbard in incredible condition for its age! From: forums.dfoggknives.com/index.php ... 5010&st=20 Photo by peter johnsson

Interesting, I'm guessing this isn't something Neil makes for his swords, hence why you are making your own?
Looking forward to some pics btw when you make it.

Always wanted a bronze sword, I think i'm going to order the Mycenaean type F soon and do some appropriate cutting tests for my own curiosity . If I ordered the finished blade, do you know if it would be sent sharpened, or is the sharpening only done to the finished and hilted swords?

If you order an un-hilted blade, I believe you specifically have to ask him to forge-harden the edge(s). I did that with my budget khopesh, and it came semi-sharp. I put a better edge on it with a fine-toothed file (although with a khopesh the edge is more axe-like than sword-like due to its thick sectional profile), and it does a MEAN slicing job on oversized zucchini squash!

Thanks for the info, i'm glad he will do the edges as trying to sharpen a bronze sword the proper way myself would only have ended badly!

Hey guys and gals, just thought I would post up the latest picture of the sword now that it is all finished and features work-hardened edges.

Yea, what he said! If you don't mind William, how many different types (grit) of sandpaper did you use to polish the blade? Very nice work all around. I'm not really a fan of this blade type but the work you've done makes it so distinctive, I just love the look of the sword.

Haha, glad you guys like the sword!
With regards to the polishing I had initially started with a metal file to get some bulk down. I then used an 80 grit flap disk grinder to get the first polish on. After that I got on with the sandpaper using grits from I think... 120 - 180 - 240 - 400 - 600 - 800 - 1200 then went onto the auto-sol metal polishing cream. I finished it off with some ren wax to prevent fingermarks.
