Here's the view of a sword newbie...
Before I found this forum, I was googling and ebay searching looking for something to catch my eye.. Lo and behold a Ryan Sword (RS) did... so pretty looking was the photo! It so happened I had some questions and emailed Ryan Sword... I waited for an answer.
Meanwhile, I stumbled upon SBG and started reading articles, I then ventured into the forums and did more searching and came upon some not so happy campers when it came to RS's. Meanwhile I was still waiting for a reply to my email.. it took nearly 5 days for a response. Well that was also nearly 5 days of reading SBG forums too.
At this point I had a decision to make. Go ahead and spend my hard earned cash on a RS going against what I perceived as some fairly educated and lucid critiques of RS, or start asking questions here and hopefully gain some insights before laying down $300+ on a sword.
Well I decided on the later of the choices. To me it was a no brainer to take the more educated voices into consideration, that my ignorant sword knowledge and my ohhhh soooo pretty! view of things.
Yes, I did buy a sub $100 sword from swordnarmory. Actually it was $50. I figured it would be my learning sword. I can learn to handle it, take it apart, clean it, etc.. until the time I decide to spend some real money.
So now I am searching more learning how to get quality at a good price.. I am waiting for the right katana that can become part of my spirit and soul.
