Hi. I have some questions regarding the Hanwei practical Mortuary Hilt sword.
A: Can the practical blade be sharpened, or is it just not worth the effort? It is about 6.5 cm shorter than the standard version and that seems to be to light and to short as it is. B: Do any of you have suggestions for a replacement blade, so the sword gets somewhat heavier and longer, the way it is supposed to be? Maybe a sharp Hanwei Tinker blade with fuller?
I can get the sword really cheap, so there is some pecuniary room left for a better blade if that is an option. Thank you very much.

I wouldn't bother sharpening the practical blade; that's not what it's meant for. I don't think they're tempered the same.
You could quite probably substitute in a H/T Early Medieval sword without too much trouble, or even a Bastard if you want, although that would be kind of skinny by comparison.

Thank you for yor reply Elheru. I had a look at the Tinker bare blades and I think the Bastard with fuller is the best choice. Mortuary hilt: blade 83,82 cm, width 3.12 cm, tang 15.82 cm, thickness at guard 6.7 mm. Bastard : blade 85 cm, width 3.94 cm, tang 22 cm, thickness at guard 4.7 mm. The long tang is very nice, now I can just copy the Mortuary hilt tang on the Bastard and peen the thing. The only problem I can see is to copy the basket on the blade shoulders. I suppose that will be very tough on the file. Those small oval thingies under the basket are, I suppose, some sort of blade stabelisers, the blade slots in between. So I have to braze 2x 1 mm sheet on the inside of those things. How's that for fun! Then, since the basket is off anyway, I gotta nickelplate the thing and than silverplate it, ja! Then, since new silver does not look very good I have to stain it with Liver of Sulphur and than polish the hilt parts in all the right places so it looks like ,, used '' and very ,,antique''. I most definitly am gonna rethink this sword mania and go play golf or collect stamps!
