With all due respect Joe,this is 2012,if you plan to go into battle, carry a Glock,AR or a shotgun. As has been said many times these are not beaters, they are made with thinner edge for proper tameshigiri on mats but will hold up against bamboo. does not make backyard beater blades. If that is what you want then buy one of the other thicker edged TH swords previously mentioned. But,even they will take some damage on unreasonable targets, like metal in your stand or something of that nature.Even battle era Nihonto took edge damage, which is why many armies took smiths and polishers to battle with them, and why many parries are done with the mune or flat of the blade.-t is also why many battle era Ryu Ha focused on cutting in the "open spaces"and the weak points or exposed areas of samurai armor.
Pigs?I don't know.Personally,I would use a clever or an axe.Are you reffering to the Cold Steel videos where they do all that testing and don't show the edge afterwards or cut away before they show th edge?
I must ask do you own an ?If so what did you damage it on?A metal cutting stand? What is your cutting/training experience?please understand that I am not being confrontational here, just trying to figure out what you want.
As for testing you?If you're blade will take everything you throw at it,how is that testing you cutting skill/ability?If you aren't not cutting your target with proper hasuji, but the blade still cuts the target, how did that test your skill? If the blade edge is so thick and dull that you cut the taget using pure muscle, disregarding good form, balance, technique, cutting stroke and awareness of the other enemies bearing down on you,how is that testing you,or your skill?
Edit-after rereading my post I feel I must make somthing more clear. It is easy to take words on a screen the wrong way.Joe,please understand that Iam not trying to be confrontational with you,I am just trying to figure out what you want. And explain as best as I can what these blades are made for, proper martial arts grade tameshigiri.learning how to cut. Traditional targets while still using good form and technique. My post isn't meant to anger or offend you in any way.Only to help you understand what these blades are meant and capable of.
