Hey I've been looking into buying my first sword recently, and after doing some research, I've decided I wanted what's called a 'beater'. My price range is under $110, so that eliminates a lot of swords.
It seems as though Deepeeka supplies the most swords in my price range. I found a sword of theirs called the English 14th Century Sword AH-3358 for $90. The site I found it on is buythesword.com, but there was very little info displayed about it. I emailed the site and they responded, saying that the sword had full tang, a carbon steel blade, and had been heat tempered. Now, I know Deepeeka has made some teribble swords that where said to be "battle ready" (the Charlemagne Sword), but does that rule out this sword?
I don't care if it's heavy, or if it handles awkwardly. I just want something that I can swing around a bit and maybe chop a few water bottles with. Is this sword up for the challenge? What do you guys think?
Here are some specs: - 42.5 inch overall - weight: 3lbs 9oz - note: I'd show some pictures of the sword, but I don't know how to!

I guess if it really is heat treated and has a full tang, it's worth $90.

Deepeeka swords are "battle ready" in that they are a full tang construction and made of carbon steel. If you're looking at turning that sword into a cutter you're in for a bit of a process. The blades are completely dull and my understanding is that they are a pain in the rear to sharpen.

I'm about 20min drive from BytheSword. The deepeeka inquestion can be best described as hit or miss. My friend James bought that exact sword and loved it. It's practicly an axe, and the temper on it was good so it took abuse from a BKS long sword and didn't even scratch. If and when you get it, (make shure it's in stock_bythesword- has a tendency to sell things they don't have) in spect the tang, if it looks good your good to go.

Are you talking this one? www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... ment+Sword Looks like it'd be fairly tough, but a 9 3/8" POB! That's going to wear your arm out like an old rubber band! That there is an axe, disguised as a sword. I'm honestly curious about Deepeeka. The general feeling is that they're bad juju, but I wonder if there are any diamonds in the rough to be found. I'm going to start that discussion in another thread, so yours doesn't get 'jacked. If you pick up this sword, write up a review, yeah? I'd be curious as to how it handles.

What the heck; if this will get you into the game and you have no illusions as to what you are getting, go for it.
My first car was a beat up old Fairlane the local gas station owner rented to me for the summer for $50.00.

That was when the service station employees would run out to your car in uniforms and check your tire pressure, fluids, clean your windows and pump the gas for you.

I have heard from a dealer that the new stuff Deep are putting out are a big improvement over the old (I havent seen them first hand yet). They mentioned that real swords were shown to the folks making them over there, and it got there heads spinning. I think if we can get a good look at some they might be good value against the windlass and now priced out of market hanwei offerings. Sure looks different from what I thought those guys were making: www.deepeeka.in/shop/New-In-2012.197I say braveheart go for it, if nothing else you will have a powerful swing after working out on it!

Actually I'm talking about a sword from bythesword.com. The one you hade in the link does look very similar, it even has the same SKU, but it's certainly not the same sword. Here's the one I'm talking about: www.bytheswordinc.com/p-1387-english-sw ... -3358.aspx
