I went to my local knife shop. They have katanas but they are all out of my price range or stainless steel. I asked one of the employees about 1095 and T10. He had some valuable information and I told him where I was ordering it from. He said he'd never heard of them but that the Shinwa swords (ones that I looked at earlier but wasn't sure of) on Budk weren't too bad for their price. However, I'm still set on the customization factor; building one up from scratch. I think to save money I'll stick with 1050 and maybe a better quality once I'm sure this is a hobby I want to stay in. Thanks for all your comments, thoughts and recommendations! I will be sure to take and post lots of pics when it arrives
Edit: I think I want to name it. My nick name is Bear, long story... so I want to call it "Bear's Claw" and have the japanese symbols engraved on the side. Which I can have done by a third party right? I want that done RIGHT

Just in case they don't, there's someone a few miles from me who does good engraving work

Options adjusted, and final price shown. For a 1050 bare basics katana price is $65+$50 for shipping. When looking for price comparison of a 1060 blade I came across a musashi. Very pleased with the look, size, hell it's practically the same with better steel! Even with shipping AND a stand, I come just under $100, well within my budget. It would also arrive in 1-2 days instead of weeks from sinoswords. I have heard nothing but good things about musashi, even from the local knife shop. Sinoswords however, has gotten a few foul words or hasn't been heard of. New plan; get the musashi as a decent 1st sword. Then get the 1095 folded with better fittings from sinoswords or some other custom place. Here is the musashi www.trueswords.com/musashi-1060-carbon-steel-best-miyamoto-sword-p-4314.html

I thought you wanted to go with Sinosword, because of the "customization at a discount price" aspect?
That Musashi's bo-hi...
