So, I may have created a monster. I got my girlfriend a Darksword Armory stiletto for our one year, and she has gone from having no interest in sharp and pointies to wanting to start up a collection of, as she terms it, pretty little knives. Problem is, beyond the Hanwei Stiletto, I've go no ideas as what other knives wold fit that category. All I know is that she's not a fan of synthetic materials, asian-style knives, or anything that looks like a kitchen knife. So, if anyone would like to list off their favorite little blades, I'd love to hear about them.

If she doesn't mind medium sized(there may be little ones) you could always look into a kris bladed knife? I know the blade pattern is nice, and they seem small.

Yeah, sorry about that. To clarify: tantos, kukris, korrambits, kris blades, and katars are out.Thin blade knives are definitely a plus. And I may show her that link, since she has something of a dread fascination with my straight razor, and that seems to be a more pointed, practical version. Thanks.

What about balisong? They are very fun cool knives, and you can learn all sorts of cool tricks with them, or she could. Plus Hitgirl from Kick Ass used them, so your girl friend can be a cool adult version of Hitgirl if she has some balisong.

Speaking of balisong kinfe, well it is traditionally made. In the hands of a trained user, the knife blade can be brought to bear quickly using one hand. Manipulations, called "flipping" or "fanning", are performed for art or amusement. Balisongs are useful for situations where it is inconvenient to use both hands to open a knife. For example, a worker who is using a single hand to hold on to something as protection against falling will not wish to use that hand to open a knife. In such a situation it is useful to have a knife that can be opened with either hand. The Balisong is used as a self-defense and pocket utility knife. And pretty sure I like balisong.

Regrettably balisong are illegal in some areas... check local regulations on those. They're often considered a sort of switchblade, as you can deploy the blade extremely quickly with one hand.

Oddly enough, not nearly as quickly as a more conventional folder with a thumbstud or similar configuration...but the latter are perfectly legal most everywhere.
Even the typical automatic or "switchblade" is only as fast as a good thumbstud, and the one I have is actually harder to deploy due to the weight of the spring in the trigger. The only reason switchblades and balisongs are illegal is because they are intimidating. Balisongs because the method of opening can be seen as a display of proficiency, though I've read before that opening the blade simply with two hands, rather than the flourish typically used, is actually considered the most threatening gesture...anyway, switchblades are scary because they demonstrate the simplicity of the act to come, just the push of a button.
Anyway, this is all assuming a balisong is something she might even like. If she has a stiletto already, you might probe her interest in the folding models. I've seen some very pretty ones around.

Consider the kershaw leek. Thin, small, sharp and available in dozens of variations. E-bay has 456 of them showing (I'm not saying that is where to buy, but a great place to look). Some people have whole collections of them. Good luck with your "monster".

Have you looked at Anza knives yet? They're beautiful, custom knives made from files, and make great gifts. I generally search for them on eBay, here: www.ebay.com/sch/Knives-Swords-B ... &_nkw=anza These do have Dymondwood handles, which is pressed layers of plastic and dyed wood, but it looks similar to natural wood.
