so i'm going to basic for the air force on january 8 (YAY!) so i've gotta prepare my swords for storage. i know i've gotta coat the blade in something like Renaissance wax and leave it out of the scabbard, but is there anything i should do for the leather scabbard itself? also, should i disassemble the swords if i can and coat the tang in ren wax too or does it not matter much?

First congratulations and thank you for your choice to serve our country.
Second I'd forget the Ren Wax and get some Militec grease. Put a thin layer (and I mean REALLY thin) on the blades after you've thoroughly cleaned them and if you so wish wrap in plastic (which I don't but you might want to) then put away for storage. I've kept swords in humid conditions for many months without touching them (6+ months) without any rust or discoloration whatsoever.
