I just received my new Dojo Pro Butterfly model #2 a few days ago. I finally got to take it out and do some cutting with it. Like anything in life it has good points and not as good points. Bear in mind that I'm a rank novice in swords so, thius will be a newbies perspective.
First up, overall impression out of the box. Excellant! I pulled it from the box and was impressed with the blade especially. The hand gaurd (Tsuba? sorry, I don't know all the terms yet) and handle were tight and comfortable, with none of the movement in my Musashi.
Next I noticed it felt better and seemed to swing better than the $50 Musashi. I think I w2ill appreciate this more as I gain skill in using it.
Sharpness of the blade. Here I was a little dissapointed. On a closer inspection than when I pulled it from the box, it seemed almost dull. I, carefully, tried the edge with my finger and it seemed less sharp than the Musashi when I first got it. When I tried it on bottles it did well on the milk jug, and some 1 quart HDPE bottles I had. I could take slices off and leave them stanbding. Not so when I went to the 500 ml water bottles. I couldn't get any to stay standing, and when I filled one back up after cutting the top section off I just batted it off the stand. Again, I'm a newbie and form probably has much to do with this.
Saya fit. This is another area I was dissapointed in. The sword fits very loose in the sheath, and actually started sliding out when I innadvertantly tipped it up getting in the door. The Musashi fit's very snugly and will not slide out even if turned upside down and shook. Once again, I only have the two Katanas, so I'm not sute which is normal.
Overall, I like this sword, and I'm sure I can work out the two problem areas. I'm working on learning to sharpen on the Musashi right now, so once I have it down I'll go over this one a bit. Other than the two issues mentioned the rest of the sword is very nice an I expect to have it for a long time.
