Good Evening!
I have my fingers crossed that someone will be able to tell me anything about what I have pictured below.I recently picked it up at a car boot sale for its aesthetics alone, but have become increasing intrigued into its background.
There are a couple of symbols engraved, unfortunately I am unable to make out what they say, but it doesn't seem to be English?
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much for you help!

What I'm seeing is two crossed stylized arms holding a pair of sabers, also crossed?
Unfortunately that doesn't really mean anything to me. You may be better off sketching the mark or taking a higher resolution photo and posting it on forums that are more dedicated to fencing per se, or antique forums' weapons section. It does look like a nice piece, probably early to mid 20th century if I were to hazard a guess (1920's-1960's?).
This is definitely a foil, btw. An epee would have a larger guard, and a saber would have an enclosed bell guard.
Sorry we can't be of more help. Welcome to the forums, btw!

Thank you so much for the guidance, I had no idea where to start!
Now I know it is a foil I will have a look for more specific forums for these particular weapons. The symbol does have crossed sabers, but instead of being held by arms, it looks like two crossed hammers facing in the opposite direction...
It's nice to know that is as old as it looks and I look forward to researching more. Thank you for making me so welcome!

Yeah, the stamp on the ricasso is definitely crossed sabers over crossed hammers (you can see it much clearer in the photo of the whole hilt). Other than that, this is a really, really common design for vintage Italian grip foils (like here) so no clues there - other than what's probably the maker's brand on the blade. In the photo it looks like there's a couple of indecipherable letters, then Z, L, I or T, something, E and maybe P... if you could get a clearer shot of that, maybe try with the flash at different angles and distances, that could help a lot in identifying and dating this little featherduster.

Ahhh i see, thank you for the Italian background! So having a closer look at the maker's brand, the letters are very difficult to comprehend in any light. I can't seem to get a good photo unfortunately. It is very worn. But if I were to hazard a guess what the letters were: The top letter might read: L.ZEIINEP The lower letters: WIENV (with the last letters worn away)
