Question I am saving up for a nice katana now, since my only katana i have in my collection is a musashi 1045 last samurai katana. The budget i will have in a few years would be around 1000 euro's,so,that will include the katana, the shipment cost, taxe's and importfee's if i would import it from the US. So no more buying swords for a wile Now i am not sure what kind of katana's you could buy for that amount of money,so i was wondering wich you could advice. I really want a 1) nice display piece, offcourse i will gonna use it from time to time 2) a lovely hamon on it 3)i don't mind if there is a bohi on it or not. I have a few katana's of paul chen (cas hanwei) on my eye but i am not sure about it since they have rised the price's of certain katana's? The katana i like from paul chen are the Bamboo mat katana www.oriental-weaponry.co.uk/acat ... atana.html The great wave katana www.oriental-weaponry.co.uk/acat ... murai.html The Wind and thunder katana www.oriental-weaponry.co.uk/acat ... murai.html The Bushido katana, but this one is like a lil bit over my budget, but than again,i am afraid i would not dare to use this katana if i wanna cut up a few mats and bottle's from time to time, tough, thisi s a very nice display piece www.oriental-weaponry.co.uk/acat ... murai.html These are standing in my wishlist I also like the elite line of ronin katana,so yeah. Wich one would you guy's recommend me? Or if you know any other brand?

The Bamboo Mat is very popular and a good buy.
I'd also go with any of the Ronin Elite kats as well, they seem very nice in general.

My first recommendation would be visiting Dave Lorrez of Samurai Sword Shop: www.samurai-sword-shop.com/ as I believe it's located c. 40km's from you. You could see those swords in person and could chat with Dave for his recommendations. And it's always nice to see swords in person. Of those that you listed I would recommend Bushido. I recently got an used one for less than half of your budget and it was already in Finland (no big shipping costs nor VAT), so I got super lucky as the owner needed money fast (of course it's not in perfect condition). That's just to show that if you'll have a year or 2 of waiting time, you can easily get a good moment to buy, if you don't mind buying an used item. Factors that are nice in Bushido, koshirae, the blade material folded K120C powder steel creates nice hada (although bit too flashy for my personal taste). Overall quality of the sword is high. I won't cut with this so I cannot comment on the cutting ability. Here is a picture showing the hamon and hada on it (the few darker spots on hamon are where I polished off a bit of rust). The hada is much nicer in person, it's mokume near shinogi and mix of ayasugi and masame near ha. There are places within Europe that still sell PC Bushido well under 1000€ as new, don't know what gen. they are though. However 1000€ starts to be so big budget there will be a huge variety of things of good quality that you can buy. Good thing is you seem to have right mind, and not jumping into hasty decisions.

that is why i ask advice here normally i kinda save up 300 euro a year to buy a sword, but i really want to have a nice katana in my collection,so it's better to have some patience and save up a lil bit, also,i am thinking about buying a set,for example, the katana and later on the wakashi/tanto,the bamboo mat seem's a nice choice, also it has a crazy hamon on,tough,i like also the great wave katana, but the hamon on the great wave is not that spectaculair as on the bamboo mat

There used to be a thread about one that had a tsuka by frankthebunny, but the owner deleted all the photos at some point. The hamon and kissaki are even more amazing in those. The pictures on the site don't do them justice.
