Not a political statement. Just a comment that these stories are rarely reported. And this one is freaky as Hell, but only got local coverage back on April 27th of this year. Probably not enough victims to warrant any larger coverage. Local Salt Lake City, UT citizen stops attack with legal firearm. www.abc4.com/content/news/top_st ... CM9dQ.cspx Then the story went viral and this follow up story came out a couple of weeks ago, on July 27th. www.abc4.com/mostpopular/story/A ... Pf_wQ.cspx Interesting stuff for gun owners...

i find it mildly amusing, in a angry sort of way that stories like this never make headlines even though like the video said, Gun owners stop an average of 2.5 MILLION crimes, but one person goes on a rampage and kills a few people every so many years and its all you hear about for months to come. Glad that citizen was there to prevent anyone from getting killed, and hopefully the victims make a full recovery, knife wounds can be really nasty

Hey now, don't get mad at the media. They have a business to run, and suffering sells.
Wait a minute...

Hopefully I'm not getting too political here.
The general media in the US and other countries have been decidedly anti-gun or pro-gun control. As a result stories that show guns and gun owners in a positive light are obfuscated by whatever else they can find to conceal them. Many media outlets won't even run such stories since after all there is no law that states they HAVE to run all news they come across.
Really big events are of course run, that's just good for business, but some smaller stories like the one Mike shared with us are ignored or if they ARE run are not material that they'd make easily or readily found because it hampers their agenda.
I'm sure John Mayer didn't mean it in this light when he sang these words but they ring all too true in regards to the media:

Having personally been in a situation like this, I find it irritating that these stories never get coverage.
Unfortunately, the news is pretty biased against gun ownership. Positive stories run contrary to the views of these large organizations, subsequently they don't get coverage. Local stations are more prone to run these kinds of stories, but they don't make the national press.
Excluding the politics, and to be fair, the other issue is one of scale. The overwhelming majority of these cases are small, involve a limited number of people, and don't provide the mass theater that the major news media looks for. The stories are just too small. And if the perp is the one that gets shot, most folks reaction is "good riddance". Not much of a story there.
Even more ironic, ownership is up. CCW is way up and right to carry is now in the majority of states. Violent crime is way down across the board, but the public is convinced that crime is out of control. We are actually much better off than 1982, yet the perception (and fear) of crime is way up. Why? Its all about the spin...

From the second story: "We just checked our phasers with the Ba'ku. Now the Son'a are shooting at us!" “Definitely feeling aggressive tendencies, sir!”
