So I grabbed the "Medieval Dagger" from MRL's recent Deal of the Day that featured it. An example of the piece: www.kultofathena.com/product.asp ... val+Dagger I used the nifty SBG code and got the price down below $50 US before shipping. Anyone else get one during that DotD? I'm not going to do a real review, but impressions. Firstly, IT'S A BASELARD damnit. "Medieval Dagger" just sort of makes my eyes glaze over because it's so unspecific. It is peened, but after assembly Mystery Antiquing Process was applied to it. The peen spot is as dark and rustic as the rest of the hilt furniture, not a gleaming blob of tang steel. The leather thong that is spiral wound around the handle for once is solid. It looks like when it was glued it was tightly compressed in place to cement it well into the wood of the handle. I say this because the other two weapons I have from Windlass that were wrapped with the same thong leather started to unravel immediately after handling for the first time. Blade seems good, I haven't tested temper yet. It does have a strange ricasso "triangle" where the bevels making up the edges part right in front of the front guard, reminiscent of a Sykes-Fairborn WWII combat dagger. Hilt is solid, though the weapon doesn't ring when the point is struck against something hard. So no super tight and conforming tang slot in handle. The scabbard is actually nicer looking in person than I thought it would be. The throat of the scabbard has two "tongues" of leather glued within, each one across where each flat of the blade will lay. This creates a friction grip when the dagger is scabbarded that allows me to turn it upside down and vigorously shake it without fear of it dislodging. It's not easy to draw or sheath right now, but the tongues of leather will wear down in time. All in all not bad for about $50 US.
Anyone else get one? Thoughts?
