So, I've been working on a Bastard Sword for a friend that had been left sitting for some time with what appeared to be surface rust and some staining. Managed to get all that out with the magic of Mother's Mag and super-fine sandpaper, etc. When finished, cleaned it up carefully and applied a thin layer of Militec 1 grease for protection. Left overnight outside of the scabbard (working on making sure there is no moisture or other crap in there). Went to apply second coat of Militec today for the Sun-Treatment and A THIRD OF THE STAINING HAS REAPPEARED. o.o >.<;; Now that I feel like a complete jackass, what am I doing wrong? Or is the sword just too far gone and will always have some staining?
ADDENDUM: Do some companies put some kind of lacquer coating over their brass fittings? I have been trying to polish the fittings on this one and keep coming up with strange "blotches" that almost look like they're some kind of coating. If so, any thoughts on how to remove it? At this point it's just in blots and it would probably be better to just polish them up properly.

Im dont know if it makes much difference, but did you clean the mothers residue off the blade really well?Like with Windex. I have noticed when cleaning some of my swords with mothers,if I dont clean them of the residue really well and oil them the staining looks like its reappearing.
