So, what with the new batch of custom kats becoming available, I am wondering...should this be my first purchase? I have the money, and while it won't be quick, I'll earn my money back. And in that horrible 3-month waiting period, I will probably purchase a couple cheaper swords for practice. That's kind of it. I just need a couple extra opinions, is all.

If you like the customization choices they have, can afford the price, and have the patience to wait for it, then go for it. They aren't bad swords, and you can make customize them to your liking.

I'm not sure if you're asking whether you should get one or for advice on what to get while waiting that is cheap. If it's whether you should get one, sure. As I understand it, it's about as good as anything for that price. There are a few others on par or slightly better(in their specific fields and applications, mind you,) but they look pretty good. If you are wanting some pointers as to what else to get, here are some good ones. Musashi Shirakawa. Less than $100, you get a decent DH blade and mediocre, though very adequate, fittings. These are very popular and receive good reviews. Can be found at Swordnarmory, Kult of Athena, Trues Swords, and many more, though these three have a very good record of customer service and good prices. Munetoshi. The house brand of Swordnarmory, whom I've had the pleasure of dealing with a few times. Good value for what you pay. They have several DH and TH offerings at under $200. Good blade and adequate fittings. I've owned two and was pleased with their performances. Hanwei Practical Katanas. They have several variations for about $200. Sharp blades and adequate fittings. Kult of Athena and paulchenhanweiswords.com/ seem to have the best prices. Going into strictly TH blades, there are: Ronin Katana. Their 1045 Dojo katanas are a great value. I have one and it's superb. Tough, sharp and good fittings. Best found at Ronin Katana and the SBG Store. Cheness. They have both a 1045 and a 1060 katana for under $200. Good, strong blades and adequate fittings. Often seen with somewhat uneven polish and a sloppily polished kissaki, but it is meant as a workhorse cutter and it fulfills this task well. Best had at www.chenessinc.com/I hope this helps, and welcome to SBG!
