Hello, I was looking for a foam sword at a reasonable price so i could practice with my brother. Since we live in different countries I only see him for 2 months a year, I though it would be fun to buy two now and in September buy a wooden sword to really start practicing. Does anyone know about a good place to buy one in Europe? I live in Portugal and didn't want to spend much money on shipping fees. I found this site from the UK but i don't know if it's reliable or not... www.martialartshop.co.uk/product ... okken.html www.martialartshop.co.uk/product ... Sword.html

You might want to read the review on your first link (Foam Bokken), as it doesn't sound like this would be well suited to your purpose. According to the review (I've never used or seen this product myself), this is a wooden bokken covered in foam. Hitting the foam with another wooden bokken (covered with foam or not) would tear the foam, as expected. So this wouldn't be a good sparring tool. The "Foam Sword" in your second link would probably work better. If the sizes listed are overall length, then the 40" should be like a katana and the 28" like a wakazaki.

Lancelot Chan, one of the Vendor members, has a company that makes sparring weapons designed to mimic the handling characteristics of their real counter parts. www.rsw.com.hk/products.htm

Very impressive specs. The katana has a sori (curvature), flats, "edge", and properly shaped handle.
Full helmets with protective face shield should be worn. And these are full weight and will leave a mark!

Yes, I had already seen his website and thought about buying his, but I just wanted a simple thing to start and if i order a beginner weapon, just the shipping would cost the same as a beginner's sword xD I think I'll buy the one on my post first, and when i come back from holidays I can buy a wooden or synthetic waster and then (when I'm a bit more experienced) buy a professional one from them But thank you for your help
