Hi everyone, I was shopping for something completely unrelated and encountered this sword hook here ( www.ecsnaith.com/brass-sword-belt-hook.html). I have no idea how it actually works but its only £1.80, so I was hoping someone here could clarify what that particular item actually does and what it attaches to. Thanks.

It's basically a large version of a bra hook.
What you do with that is you put it on the end of a strap that goes on your belt, and you hook it into the rings that go on the scabbard of a military sword. It's not really the most secure of holds; I think in the original military they generally used clips rather than hooks, but for dress and parades it's adequate. Dave Kelly will probably know a lot more about this than me...

Sorry. I've never seen a belt hook in that configuration before. No idea how it works. :?

To be honest..it looks like the type of hook you sometimes find on old British Army web equipment of WW1 or WW2. I have a map case with one very similar. I imagine it was just hooked over the belt. I'll see if I can get a pic of it.

For what it costs you could make a leather frog/holder on your own (all supplies but a hammer included) and have a much better hold.

Thanks for all the responses, I believe I shall be forgoing the hook at the present time.
