I bought a couple of swords from them a few years back. They were quite good then. Of course, they were also significantly cheaper than the average back then; they almost doubled their passives last time I bothered to look.
Actually, searching google now, the URL, site layout, and product catalog is significantly different than the store I remember...I had been subscribed to their newsletter, and I think I still am, bit I'd made a habit of just deleting them on receipt. I was unaware of a new site, but the old one seems non-existent. The prices I'm seeing are all over the place, and selection (outside of rapiers, haven't looked there) is lacking bad.
I'm going to switch my initial "they're great" to "I don't know these people, sorry."
Man, you think you know a place...

I've done business with them, although not for swords. I know they're a respected site in my dealings with them. They have a huge offering of goods.

Haven't tried dealing with BTS for several years. Real spotty performance. They are pass thru vendors. Seldom see most of what they market. SOme of the off brand stuff is really shoddy and of poor fit.
Past customer service was friendly but slow to help or get answers. Long waits ending in cancellations. Might check the SBG main board feedback pages and see if there are any current comments on how BTS is doing since their "reorg".
I'm not recommending them.

Some years ago I ordered a sword plus some display hangers from By the Sword. When the box arrived, the sword was there, but no hangers. When I called them, the By the Sword customer service person accused me of lying to them, and said that I had really received those hangers and was trying to cheat them out of some more. This for a ten dollar item! They eventually (with a lot of ill grace) sent me those hangers, but it left a real bad taste in my mouth and I have never bought anything from them since.
