I was hoping to get a pair of custom swords from Jin Shi but all I get when I email Jin Shi is a form email with rather standardized options for swords. No sign of really custom swords at all. I emailed back asing about that and got the same thing. No answer to PMs here to garrettc.
Does anyone know if Jin Shi has stopped making really custom blades and, if so, who does with Jin Shi's quality and price range?

I did notice that there is a "if no reply then use this address" email address on his contact page. Did you try both email addresses? I just sent him an email as well.

The other email no longer accepts emails. It has probably been shut down. I hope garrettc is okay.to lose Jin Shi would be a true tragedy for Chinese Sword enthusiasts...

Taran, I was able to get an email to Garrett concerning the ordering of a Qing Jian. From his response, they are not doing any more custom work on Qing Jians. He did say that they "had something in the works" but did not offer a timeline. I was very disappointed to hear. The email was the "sales@jin-shi.com" one. Here is his email copied/pasted: "Hello Tommy, At this time, the only Qing dynasty jian we are offering is the Fei Long jian. However, it is a bit limited as it is heavy and can only accept a 26" blade. If you are interested, please let me know. Otherwise, you might want to wait for some goodies that are under development though there is no timeline at the moment...
Kind Regards,
Garrett Chan Jin Shi Trading Co." I was so bummed out to hear. I am now in correspondence with JKOO after reading Bushido's review of his sinosword purchase.

Thank you for turning me on to Sinoswords. They have some truly GORGEOUS pieces! And custom work for approx $300? Wondrous!
Bushido's review indicates they are Clearly not at Jin-Shi's level of quality, but for Jin Shi, I want a truly one of a kind custom piece. I am ready to drop as much as $2k per sword for my pair of blades that I want and now that I have the money, I don't have the manufacturer.
Alas, I shall have to console myself for now with something less expensive (but still absolutely beautiful and of solid quality).

If you have the budget for $2K, why don't talk to Mr. Rodell (of Seven Stars Trading - www.sevenstarstrading.com)? He should be able to give you some pointer. He also carries Huanuo sword. A very beautiful and very functional sword. I own the Jue Yun Jian and the quality of the blade is just top notch! Or you might be able to get an antique with that kind of budget.

I'm not spending that much money without getting Exactly what I want, which means an entirely custom piece.

I had an exchange with Garret's brother Warren back in May. I sent a note to Garret at the jin-shi address and Warren replied from the sales address. We were discussing a Han jian. The web site is still active. That is all I can say.
