just a quick question on what was typically worn underneath Yoroi armor. Was yoroi hitatare (Kosode & Momhiki) the standard, or were Hakama's and Gi's worn under the armor as well?

If you're choosing for yourself you should go with what you like the most. Personally I prefer a pleated hakama for a greater volume and the cotton kosode because it is light and breathable. I also find trousers to restrictive and tight around my robotic bits. A hakama allows my prosthesis to properly function and also makes it is easier to alter if needed. Traditionally, armour underwear was kosode and light foot momohiki although hakama and gi were also worn. There are accounts of samurai not wearing any undergarments at all, if you're feeling hardcore.

Nobody wants to die with a sweaty arse! If you have to go, go breezy.

It would depend on your status. Under everything would be a "fundoshi" (loin cloth), then if you had the money a matching set of yoroi hitatare, for less well off samurai, hakama of some type, shitagi and kaihan. Yoroi hitatare Kobakama and kaihan Shitagi
