Hey guys, I'm in trouble here. Due to my recruitment to the Navy my free time was too little for sword caring. So I had the most stupid idea I ever had. And it didn't stay as an idea... I sprayed WD-40 inside my Hanwei Dark Sentinel's scabbard. Now, few weeks late, it smells like moisturized wood and I'm afraid that it has started to decompose. I'm afraid also that soon the moisture will pass to the blade itself. Apparently, there is a high cost for the stupidity... Any suggestions about how to solve my problem guys?

I'd just turn it on it's side and put a fan blowing on the throat overnight for a day or two. WD-40 is not going to cause you a big problem, I have used it for YEARS with no issues on both guns and swords. The only problem you will run into would be if there was water inside the scabbard WHEN you saturated it - the oil will displace the water into scabbard channel. Still, no serious problems here, it will be good to go in a day or two. Don't sweat it.
