So, just curious--does anyone else want to list a sword (or two or three) that they get the feeling is roundly disparaged, but you simply love? Mind you, I'm not necessarily talking about "underrated." My CS Shamshir for instance or Hanwei Dark Sentinels I have a higher opinion of than most, but I wouldn't say either model is too badly criticized. (And I'm talking individual models, not makers.) (Also, though I can't control it, would politely ask that we not respond to anyone here with more criticisms. Yes, yes, we know that most of you/us hate what someone says they like here--that's the reason for this thread! ) So, what "ugly orphan(s)" do you have? Explain why you like them if you wish, or just mention which they are. Me? CS Grosse Messer Windlass Arbedo. (Yeah, one is more solid than necessary and feels a bit like an axe, the other the opposite and a bit whippy and machete like. But man, both cut like a m*#$#^%#@&$r.)

Not sure they are "ugly orphans" but I am surprised stuff from Master Cutlery doesn't get more love. I have owned a Masahiro HIghlander and a Ten Ryu katana, and plan on getting a Ryumon soon. I have been impressed with both swords I owned, especially considering they were each sub $100 swords. And though I have heard good things from people about Ryumon, and about older discontinued Masahiro swords, they almost never get recommended and are always overlooked in favor of Ronin, Cheness or Musashi. Nothing wrong with that, as I know those are all trusted brands. But I am still excited to see how a Ryumon is.

What mods did you do? Id love to see a picture if you don't mind. I've always liked the look of the sword. Reminds me of the Del Tin they copy it from. Or it could be Del Tin doing the copying.

I just filed down the grip and did a cord/leather grip. Worked on the edge to make it pretty sharp. That's about all. This sword feels like it would thrust through about anything. Really not a bad buy for the price.

I have a Windlass Slayer of Kings which I rave about all the time, it is pure fantasy sword but is one of my favorites, one day I will get a custom one made.

Pretty much any XIV other than the Albions [and they are minimal] get next to no love... Always hear people say they perform well, and then they go buy a type X or XVIII. Just peculiar to me.

Early this year I got a left handed dagger, Del Tin's, DT6161 that gets no respect. I've mentioned it a couple of times on another sword website, but I get zero response. Its a fine piece of work, big, strong but still light, with a nice distal taper while keeping a stiff blade. Its pretty much the same size as the discontinued Windlass Coustille that many want to be revived, but it is a better made dagger/short sword (16.125 inch blade). Koa sharpened it and made a good scabbard for it. DT6161 is a good weapon by itself, not just as a partner to a sword in your right hand. It would have been a good blade to have at your side as you walked down bad city streets or as a backup weapon for a longbowman to use after the arrows ran out (as they always did) kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=DT6161 - DT6161 kultofathena.com/product.asp?ite ... hort+Sword - Coustille
