Hi all, New Scotsman to the site i have been very interested in Katana's for along time. It's only now that i have suitable funds for purchasing one.
I have been scanning through this site and after alot of reading
I will admit i originally looked at Cheness, Kaze / Tenchi. And as much as i like the Kaze i Decided to up my budget and purchase a Hanwei Lion dog.
Now i'm looking for suggestions as to where to purchase Tsuba based along same style as the Global gear Chikara katana.
kindest regards
adam

Thanks for the information and link to Tsuba.
I did see a few people that bought the Lion dog saying the Tsuka was like a axe handle......
And to be totally honest i bought it purely because i liked the overal appearance shape o-kissaki hamon.... so purely for the blade.
My plan was and is to customise it.
Any further links very much welcomed,
regards adam

You've certainly decided on a solid *starting* katana. I like the no nonsense looks of the Lion Dog. And, if it is made to the same production standards as the Bamboo Mat, I'm sure you'll love admiring the sword/saya fit and that beautiful HWS blade. Here's the Hanwei blurb on these HWS swords: HWS-S1 and HWS-S2 KatanaYou can always buy a beater or two. But I've never regretted paying a little bit more for a quality sword, custom or production.

Thanks, I figured buy the best i can afford.
From what i have been reading the Hws 1 steel is meant to be stronger than the Hws 2 of the Bamboo mat. Having said that if i had the cash i would have bought both the Lion and Mat.
I did look at the lion dog wakizashi, But there are none avaliable in the uk or e,u. the outlet that previously stocked them wanted $755 dollars/ £500 quid.
Beater's.....
I have looked at both reviews for the Cheness Tenchi and dynasty forge Musha, Like the look of both Katana. Price wise there is about $30 between them.

I have a Cheness Shura--my first beater. I do like its tsuka shape.
Many here rave about the DF Musha tsuka and the production quality. I do not yet own a DF katana, but have seriously considered doing so on many occasions.

Still contemplating which one to go for. The Musha is a finished item, Tenchi is avaliable in Shirasaya only as supplier does not have much selection....... In the range of avaliable Katana fully furnished etc, Kaze and Sgc ko katana thats all!!
I found a Raptor wak and Tanto for a combined price of £155 incl postage....... Might look out of place next to a Lion dog though...
