So i bought a cold steel great sword. the pommel and handle is tight, but the hilt rattles slightly from side to side... it is a little annoying. I just got the sword, so should I return it? or just fix it? Is this problem dangerous?

In general I consider any loose fittings dangerous, as they tend to create a cascading effect of problems. The small looseness of the guard rubbing and weakening another part and on down the line.
I would suggest either fixing the issue or returning it. Either way you don't want to leave a loose guard.
I am not sure what exactly it would take to fix the looseness so can't make suggestions there, however I am sure someone will come along and post some ideas on that soon.
If you have other swords to get you by, and this one is brand new, I would suggest contacting the vendor you bought it from and seeing about a return, better to have it with out issues from the start. However if it is your only sword you might not want to have to wait again for it, so a little DIY repair could take care of the problem. It is up to you if you want to work on it yourself or get one without this issue. Either way again, don't use a sword with loose fittings, it is a recipe for danger.

Ya makes sense. I did a small shimming job and the guard is tight now. Idk if this could still be a problem though.
