Hello everyone this is my first post here, and as a welder\ metal worker i recentley decided to experiment with cutting up sawblades with carbide teeth snd afixing them to a sword i made if sorts, they also can be used as a saw capable of cutting even stone when used as s saw, am i the first to do this? Is this worth my time is anyone interested in seing my proto types in action? In addition to the sawblade design im contemplateing using thick strait razors on the same sword blank

Never seen carbide saw teeth used like this, specifically, but various oceanic cultures have been making shark teeth swords for ages... And of course there are various hunting swords and engineer/pioneer pattern bayonets with saw backs, although those are just for sawing through unresisting things like logs and bones; saw teeth really don't add anything at all to the combat cutting power of a conventional steel sword.

Wow thats interesting, and yes it is true a sharp steel sword will cut better than the carbide teeth, they would mainly just rip, but im hopeing that my designes yeild an effective and unique weapon, the strait razor idea should fill the cutting role

Speaking of razors, how about the Aztec macuahuitl? Like a cricket bat lined with surgically sharp obsidian blades, obsidian being one of the most badass naturally occurring substances on Earth - it's a kind of volcanic glass, and when broken automatically forms an edge sharper than any steel blade (when knapping obsidian, don't ever brush the flakes off your lap with a bare hand). Dunno if anyone's ever made an obsidian razor - and personally I would be kinda afraid to try one - but it has been used for ultra-sharp scalpels...

Wow so both my ideas have been done, thanks for the info those are facinateing weapons, i heard obsidian can get down to a mear molucule thick edge, well these may be overley confident words gere but i hope to oneday soon sell my creations and mabey become a sword manufacturer on my own, the quality of what i can make for tge price i can offer i think has potential, ive still got my fingers crossed as to their effectiveness

Eh, all ideas have been done before in some form or another. Go boldly forth, give it a try and let us know how it turns out!

Check out my thread Macuahuitl the sharpest sword ever (picture heavy) which has nice pictures of Aztec Macuahuitl also a nice set of instructional videos on how to make them. The thread also shows the shark tooth swords from the Pacific islands and from Africa. There is also a video of a guy who made a razor knife Macuahuitl from a carved down baseball bat. This sounds like a fun project and definitely share some pictures of it with us. No it is not a new idea, in general, however it is still a cool twist to an old idea. Has anyone ever made one out of carbide saw teeth? I don't know but sounds wicked cool to me.

sword done, i used a metal cutting blade on this one quite honestly it works best as a saw :/ ill have to use a real sawblade next time, but here she is, my proto-type the handel is made of hickory i believe, which is very hard thick and is nice and oval shaped, tang is pretty thick and runs almost all the way through it (got a much larger handel than i thought i would) the handel came from an axe, not much of a woodworker lol, the cross is engraved just to add to the overall dezign, and make it look not so much like a shank lol Attachments:

I like it! That looks straight out of a horror film. I like the razor idea also. Maybe like a leather cord wrapped handle to keep up with the dangerous image of the blade?
I'de buy that, and put it behind a glass saying "In case of zombies - Break glass".
