I bid on a E-bay item that appeared to be a Windlass German Bastard sword. I bid $69.95 and there are no other bids. The photo's in the add seem to be a Windlass. I emailed the seller today and the rsponse was "This is sword is not made by windlass, but it is the same manufacture as the Windlass".
Does Windlass make swords for other vendors and would they produce the same exact sword for someone other then Windlass ?

They are visually the same at first gance, but differ greatly from each other.
The Ebay model has an aluminum cross guard for starters, painted aluminum. The blade is not finished anywhere near the finish on the Windlass German Bastard. 'INDIA' will be etched into the blade with an engraving tool, and quite sloppily on the one that I examined. The blade flat on the hex section blade will be a bit irregular, and wider than on the Windlass version.
A friend got one, we examined it, and immediately tore it down to use the grip and pommel parts as patterns for projects, and the blade was relegated to the whenever project pile. The blade seemed to have decent heat treat as judged from taking a file to it, but it was a bit softer than a normal Windlass piece as near as I could tell.
Get it, beat it mercilessly, post your results, and at least you are not out much.

Thanks for the input. I intend to decline making the purchase. I guess the old addage you get what you pay for rings true.
