I was wondering if there were any tutorials about on how to easily make a sword belt or belt frog using an existing plain leather belt?
Preferably to hold a single hand sword at the waist either vertical or angled.
Any tips / links would be most appreciated!

Peter does well there. There isn't really a tutorial per se, but Ye Ode Gaffer's site offers a scabbard making tutorial. If you were to go there and skip the 'core making' part, you cold probably pull the chap and throaÞ off the EMSHS(I'm guessin that's your project fort here) and then re wrap the scabbard in leather and add an integrated sword belt. A bit ambitious, but would look and ride great.
Alternately, I just got my windlass XIV in, and plan on doing a huge slew of mods to it. I've made several sword frogs and belts. If you google 'the inner bailey' my prefered type of frog or belt is based off their 'sword belt/frog of the circle'. I can put together a quickie MS paint of how to do this tonight probably. It's very easy and can be done with scrap leather from tandy 1/2 the time. Add in just one bag of rivets, an 'O' ring and a pair of buckles and you're good to go(basically).
Personally, if you have e bit of cash, the Inner Bailey's stuff is a great buy for the money. But if you, like me, just like to DIY and sometimes save some money, I've seen enough interest in this I suppose I should put up a tutorial. It is very simple and even if you've never worked leather should only take 20-30 mins tops I'd think.

Thanks for the links! I'll certainly have a look at making my own compared to just buying one. I thought I'd share my temporary fix in the meantime (excuse my scruffy attire); Due to my thin proportions I was able to find a long leather belt that a family member didn't mind me using. It is tied in a simple knot (not pulled tight) then fastened on one of the last holes. The weight of the sword seems to tighten it, but even with just the scabbard in there it stays put which is fine for this temporary fix. I wear it higher than I would with a normal belt, but even with that thin longsleeve tee on it was pretty comfortable. Doesn't move around too much when I walk either but I'm not sure I'd trust keeping the scabbard in there whilst sparring. I'll post pics if I get around to making a proper belt. Thanks again

That method with the belt you posted is pretty close to a modern version of how certain sword belts work, so nicely done! Leatherwork is simple if you take your time, and you should do just fine working you own. Working on the tutorial now, and only note for you is with your thinner frame and such your measurements and sizes may be snaller.

I personally would avoid the first link Talon... That style has never held a sword on me comfortably, and allows no way to adjust to sit, and very little movement of the sword at all. That second one is in the same style I love, and I'm onto step 2 now... Here;s a quick preview to make sure it make sense for you guys. The measurments aren't precise, as I no long have a sword frog of this variety (just sold the last one with it) and I do not have the right color of leather to make one for my new XIV. They are done from memory, and are flexible enough. Red circles on the side represent cut outs to be made to fit the 'O' ring and dots are hole punches for rivets. Attachments:

Find can obviously correct me on the measurements in my drawing. What takes me a couple of hours takes him half of one. Man is a bit talented.

Good on ya. If my brother is anything to go by, people who work leather have as many a ways to do the same thing as there are people who know how to do it!

Yeah, those kinds work if you're with a smaller sword or thr right build just not comfy for me. I'm working on refining the images for mine, should be done soon. Looking forward to yours Find, I'll be sure to share it out ot some of those I know locally who constantly want me to make things when I barely have time to outfit myself >.<

Ahh, the double strap is the kind I typically make. Easier to sit down without having to take it off, which when I'm working a show is a must. It's nice to just twitch the straps and sit. Though I want to work on doing a double-wrap belt with that.
Thanks for covering it.. I tried a write up, and while I could make it myself without a flinch, when I tried to explain my process it failed miserably and my wife just went 'Whats that supposed to mean?' and I couldn't explain more. So cheers to ya for that!

I'm struggling to remember how to do the frog for it.. It involved a funky little fold and rivet trick.. Although a sword belt for it is easy peasy. That will be what I try, as I just can't make it clear how the fold works in MS Paint. The belt version is just laughably easy.
