hey, i found something (forget where) that said this thing called the samurai shark could put a great edge on a sword as easily as an accusharp without a secondary bevel. is there any truth to this?

Buy it here: www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/8 ... rpener.jsp From the look of the angle on the sharpening edge, I think it would give a secondary bevel. But what do I know? *shrugs*

Good point. I wonder if the retractable blade would be suitable for kats? I guess if you get to adjust the angle, it may well be able to sharpen a kat. But would you want to?
I thought you were referring to the primary apparatus at the "mouth" of the thing.

i'm actually not entirely sure what i am referring to, i've never used any hand sharpener in my life, never sharpened a sword. my hope is that it could sharpen a kat, if it can i'll buy one.

My mother bought one of those a while back. It was garbage. The bloody plastic cracked and fell apart after about two weeks. Never did get a great edge on anything with it, either.

it looks like it MIGHT be designed to create a convex bevel. Fine and dandy if it happens to match the convex bevel on your sword. otherwise you create a secondary convex bevel. And you though 1 was hard to polish (j/k). If you want to make it that easy, you would probably be better off with an accu-sharpener or another similar product from reputable manufactures and just accept the secondary bevel. Unless you are cutting wood, bone, bamboo etc.

ok, thank you brother. guess i better practice doing it right. my katana will taste lots of bamboo, but the edge is just fine for now. though i might use an accusharp on my hanwei blunt
