Hey everybody . This is my first post on the forum, so it may be a bit sloppy.
Well, I have always been fascinated by basically everything in the universe. In turn, I am fascinated by swords. Ever since I was a young boy, I wanted to own my own sword. As you all know, this was a complicated idea because there are SO MANY swords on planet earth. I had put the idea aside for a very long time. Just this year, I was staring at the Google homepage wondering what I should look up. I began thinking of swords and tried to find some advice on buying a great sword. Shortly after, I came across Swordbuyersguide. I literally spent at least five hours on the page after discovering it. I was blown away with how much work "the creators" have put in to make this site a true gem. I proceeded to read about every sword and watch videos on the ones that seemed the best. From this, I have come up with a list of possible candidates for my first sword. Now, bear in mind that I truly have great respect for everything in the universe which includes swords. I would try my hardest to care for my sword as did our ancestors.
Just to give you guys and gals an idea of my body type, I am 6 foot 5 inches and weigh 170 lbs. As you would imagine, my arms and legs are quite long. I also just wanted to say that I plan on buying 2-5 swords in my lifetime so that I can have different "types" of swords (sorry for the lame terminology).
Here is the list of swords I believe would be great choices for myself (They are all found on SBG because I have a hard time trusting other sites because of the way their sites are set up). Also, I know that there have been a few debates on the issue of self defense with a sword but seriously, I don't have a gun so if all hell breaks loose I would grab my (with your help) chosen sword.
Okay, here is the list with some reasons why I like the sword listed beside the name of the sword/"manufacturer".
1)Cheness Cutlery*Cheness Custom Bujinkan Katana (Oniyuri)- I liked:Solid review, solid videos, long handle which creates great versatility.
2)Generation 2*Irish Hand and a Half Sword- I liked:Solid review, solid videos, want at least one two-handed European sword and this one seems to be the best on SBG in my undisciplined opinion.
3)Cold Steel*The Gim- I liked:Solid review, solid videos, want at least one one-handed sword and this one seems to be the best on SBG in my undisciplined opinion.
4)Cheness Cutlery*Kaze Katana- I liked: Solid review,solid videos,seems like a great "standard?" katana.
5)Cheness Cutlery*9260 Spring Steel O Katana- I liked:Solid review, solid videos, supposedly it might be better than a "standard" katana for tall guys like myself(is this true any tall guys that have handled one?)
6)Ronin Katana*Dojo Pro Model 3 or 4- I liked:SOLID review,SOLID videos.
Also, just to remind you, if there's any tall guys or gals that have handled a 9260 Spring Steel O Katana, let me know how it compared to handling other katanas.
I tried adding a poll with the list of swords so everyone could cast two votes for their two favorite swords on the list for a beginner. Thank you for your time. I really appreciate this wholesome community.
P.S. I also loved the Jin Shi*Han Dynasty Sword, but that pricetag will have to wait for later in my life, if ever.
