www.ebay.com/itm/Handforged-jp-w ... 27c5cf1d92 I was just looking at Ebay sword auctions and noticed the shipping charge of this sword. $80.00 seems to me to be asking a little much for a sword. Is this normal?

No, it is not typical. It is likely the seller inflating the shipping charges to avoid additional ebay costs. Sellers often list an item with a low price as ebay charges fees based on the selling price, then they jack up the shipping to make more money for themselves without having to share with ebay. This action has a name but I forget right now.
However the $80 may be correct if the seller is using a private express delivery courier service which may also include brokerage fees and customs fees upfront (as opposed to being calculated at the border when entering your country). additional services such as these come at premium.

Well, you US living sword lovers have the luxury of very low shipping costs.
However when buying swords (from outside EU to Finland) I've gotten postal quotes and prices c. 50-200$ for just the postage.
But in that case that you linked, the answer is what you thought yourself and Chris Peroni explained. I mean 5$ for the sword and 80$ for the shipping, something is just not correct on that. And like Chris said they are dodging the eBay fees. Most likely this would be c. 55$ sword and 30$ shipping or something like that.
