I did a quick search on the forum for Ollin and came up empty, so I apologize if this vendor has been covered. I was just wondering if anyone had an opinion on them, good or bad. Here is the link: ollinsworddesign.com/Hope that works, I am a noob after all.

I can't name anyone who has actually had one off the top of my head, but searching through older threads, like this one, they seem to be quite well regarded.

Very interesting. I wonder why that thread didn't come up in my search?

Wrong category, perhaps? I searched for it in the General Discussion. Anyways, from what I've gathered while looking through the threads my search brought up, though nobody seems to actually own one, Ollin seems to be fairly well respected and something of a "go-to" when it comes higher quality custom swords alongside the likes of Brendan Olszowy of Fable Blades and John Lundemo of Odin Blades.

Maybe I will try them out. Then we can have a few reviews on them. I am surprised that there is not more info about them on there, as they are one of the first websites I found when I began to search for sword smiths a few years ago.

I actually e-mailed them a couple times and just got crickets on their end. I picked up a used Ollin Hart Sword awhile ago that should be here soon. The only other sword they make I like the looks of is their falchion. KOA stocks their items.

I have a Swiss Sabre with a custom Ollin blade, it used to be featured on their custom page but it isn't loading for me now so here is a pic from Christian Fletcher website (he did the Hilt), plus one of it hanging up at home. The blade is very well made and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of their other swords. King Jack and the Legion sword have been on mywant list for quite a while. Attachments:

Good info... I wonder why they never responded to your emails William? I too noticed their custom page was down. Some of their custom work looked almost too neat, like it was too decorative to be functional. Of course, I have never handled any of their pieces, it's just an impression I got from the pics. Hopefully some more people post some reviews on their work. Thanks for all the info everyone.

I wanted to give them money :-(
Guess their business is pretty good if they are too busy to respond to e-mails and I used 2 different addresses on their site.

Maybe they were training for the Zombie Apocalypse. I'm sure they will get back to you when they return.

Will do. He just mailed it Tue and will take a couple weeks at least from Canada. That A&A brazil not he still has for sale is a great deal if you like light swords. At 2.2 lbs, it is too light for my tastes.

Thanks for the link. A very interesting piece. However, having never really learned to use a medieval sword with a shield, I tend to prefer swords with longer handles. At this juncture, I only aspire to collecting ancient replicas, such as Greek, Roman and Celtic swords. I don't have the time, knowledge or money to delve into the medieval scene at this point. By "A&A" are they referring to "Arms & Armor"? I am not very familiar with their brand. Could you point me to some unbiased critiques of their work? I just hopped on their website and was surprised at their prices. I had thought that they were more along the lines of MRL and the like. They seem a bit more mid-grade than budget as I had thought. Also, thanks for being such a great help since I joined the forum. You always seem to right on top of my questions, and I am very grateful for that.

Well they make good swords. I had them custom make me Magus Koll before they became a stocking item at Kult of Athena. I much prefer it to the Albion one. However, I had trouble with emails. Often they said they never got them, so didn't respond. The sword was finsihed for a month before I found out. It is still one of my favorite swords. The fuller is susposed to be put in by hand ans is extremely straight. So a trade, not great communications, but great work, at least in the one I have.

First, sorry for neglecting the forum for so long. If only I had the time and money to spend every waking hour reading and writing about history, swords and weapons. Alas, I must work for others before I can work for myself.
That Magnus looks awesome. I have always loved the single edged Viking blades. Though even less effective against armor than the double edged version, my thoughts always wander to the ferocity that those who wielded such a weapon must have possessed. A true one-handed hacking weapon. They would creep up with their axes, throw them into the heads of the sentries, pull their shield from their back and their sword from their scabbard and hack to pieces all the frightened townsfolk from York to Kiev. I admire different aspects of all historical civilizations, and brute strength is a top attribute of the Norsemen in my book. The Magnus is a clear representative of that trait.
So, consensus is, Ollin is worth the money, but buy from KoA, don't bother with direct contact? I can dig it. Thanks for the info.
