Since we are working through Meyer's rapier / sidesword I wanted my own weapon. Also I am reading through Camillo Agrippa and wanted an earlier style rapier. It is 44 inches overall and has 35 inches of blade in front of the guard. The grip is long because I wanted to have the option of wearing more protective gloves for Meyer after busting two finger in two weeks. The blade is the shorter Hanwei practical rapier blade that the kids group uses. Total price was $230 The rest imgur.com/a/WLsRX#BqbAywww.jamesthejust.com/inspirations images

I picked up that mask that they re selling it it does a good job a distributing the force of a two handed longsword shot rather nicely.
One of the guys that we fight with has been doing steel spatting since the late 80's. He was asked by a Doctor last year after looking at an x-ray if he was a stuntman or a bull rider when he was young.

Had the same thing happen when I complained my hands would go numb.. Doctor noted none of the joints were straight... Catholic School and sparring.
James' stuff doesn't look bad at all, does he do the guards from his own?

James made everything but the blade. This is a custom guard. I sent him some picture of what I was imaging and what I wanted to use it for. He asked for measurements and I had the sword in my hand in under 4 weeks. Most of his stuff has more of a polished finish but for sparring swords I prefer a rougher look to cover up the scuffs and scratches

It is very very nice! Congratulations on a fine practice weapon! I would like a similar hilt made, eventually, but mounted on a sharp blade...

that sucks dude, is it peened or threaded? If it's threaded I would imagine you could just swap it out for a new blade.

it's threaded and James is going to send me a new blade.

That a Nice sword. I don't think I have seen his stuff before. I like it.
Maybe you should get an Alchem broadsword blade for it......I think the rapier blade might break again. Meyer and Aprippa are both using sideswords in their treatises. Plus the broadsword would be stronger then the rapier blade, especially when you accidentally defend with your foible which can easily happen when sparring.

I was thinking about moving to an Alchem blade, but I like the shorter Hanwei rapier blades. There is a sidesword group that we are affiliated with that has used them as a loaner sword since they where available with only a few breaks over the years, mostly in the tang. That group has 2 swords that are over 10 years old. I think that the trade-off of Hanwei blades being cheap is that sometimes the quality control isn't there.
I like the blade that Alchem puts out, but the last thing I ordered from them took 5 month.

Yeah I read your post about how long it took to get your swords. Does James the Just have blades already stocked or does he oder blades when he has a new order? He has prices up for Alchem 32''broadswords blades. Is that to long for your like? What about Zen Warrior Armory's rapier blades? I have two of their blades, their rapier and their schlager blades. The rapier blade is thicker and stiffer than the schlager blade and can hold its own with cut & thrust blades. Mine has gonre up againts Hanwei's backsword, broadsword, and Darkwood cut & thrust blade. ZWA rapier blade can come as short as 30''. Is that a good length for you? www.zenwarriorarmory.com/catalog ... egory%3D40

35 inches infront of the guard is about perfect. I have been interested in ZWA rapier blade. I haven't seen one in person, they don't have pictures on there website. Do you have a good picture of the blade
For latter Italian rapier I like the 42" Darkwood bated rapier blade.

You can also see if a Darkwood cut & thrust blade could fit your hilt? ZMA also have 32'', 35'', 37'', and 40'' blades. Here are the pics that I have, I can take better ones if needed The blade with the red tape is the rapier blade. The white tape is the schlager blade

thanks, I spent a lot of time in the past looking for a picture like that. I think that I'll pick up a ZWA in the future.
Someone who looked at the surface of the brake stated that it looked like crystallization form a bad heat treatment.

The sword was mailed back to James last Thursday at lunch time. I received it back with the new blade fitted in to the guard this morning. That is an impressive turnaround time. I just wanted to give him some praise for his customer service.

the replacement blade has been holding up well. I also ordered a matching dagger from James using the new dagger blade that he is carrying. This dagger has very good flex but the blade is more substantial that most of the parrying daggers I have handled so it is a bit slower in the hand. The up side of this is that when is displaces a blade it does so very well. a zippo for scale Fighting with the matched sword and dagger. I am the stockier guy in the video
