I just wanted to make a brief introduction. I have been a huge history fan for quite a long time and finally purchased m first sword just over a year ago. I am an avid archer and firearm enthusiast, and I started training in HEMA with my oldest daughter as soon as I acquired my first sword. I have a number of other, smaller bladed weapons and hope to continue to expand my sword collection. My ultimate goal is to own several swords representing all of the major historical military cultures, from ancient Greece to the Renaissance. I also aspire to have a set of three custom blades of my own design, a two handed sword, a short sword, and a dagger. I want the blades to all have a sort of leaf blade shape, as I love the idea of being able to slice and stab with the same sword. I am still in search of the sword smith who will ultimately complete my dream set, but there is no rush. I am married and have 5 daughters who all enjoy (with varying enthusiasm) history, swords and martial arts.
Anyway, I am excited to have found a forum dedicated to like-minded individuals who share a passion for history, fantasy, and, of course, swords. I look forward to many fruitful conversations with you all. Talk to ya soon.

Good Afternoon, Welcome, by your intro you will like it here, Its nice that your family is involved in your Hobby, your idea of your own designs and matching sets sound like a job for Brenno at fable blades. many people here own his one of a kind custom unique , yet functional pieces which are truely extraordinary. There are alot of other Great Smiths here, this was just the first one that popped into my mind. check it out at your lesuire fableblades.com/

Thanks Adrian. Bulvoy: I have enjoyed viewing the fable blades website and agree that he is certainly a front runner to put my "dream team" together. I have some reservations about dealing with the shipping challenges with me being stateside and the good Brenno residing down under. Perhaps some of you that have made those cross-globe exchanges could put my mind at ease? I also noted a very prudent thread concerning bugging our fellow craftsmen before we are ready to purchase. While I have done this before, I do not intend to do it again, and with the utmost respect will refrain from proposing my challenge to any smithies before I am good and ready to move forward with the project. Thanks for your input guys!

I think there are more than a few people that are willing to vouch for Brenno's work and reliability. But if you want to consider a US blacksmith you could check out John Ludemo's work at www.odinblades.com/ or Christian Fletcher at www.christianfletcher.com or Jeffrey Robinson at www.bronzebyjeffreyjrobinson.com ... lades.html As an added bonus I know that John Ludemo and Jeffrey Robinson frequent this forum...

I'm sorry if I came off as second guessing Brenno's work or reliability. I have read countless raving reviews of his work and can safely say that any concerns in that regard have been safely put to rest. I am more concerned about the transcontinental exchange and the involvement of customs. I've never purchased something directly from another country and, therefore, I am very apprehensive about the process. Thanks for the links, though. I would like to patronize all of the smithies that frequent this forum, if for no other reason than to encourage the makers of our desired arms to continue to share their expertise with us. I have been toying with the idea of commissioning Rick Barrett, but he might be a bit out of my price range, at least until I win the lottery.

Didn't mean to imply that that was the case, I just meant because these guys are well respected US smiths and if you're leery of international transactions and shipping then there are some alternatives. BTW, Jeffrey Robinson makes a lot of his swords using Brenno blades, so it's the best of both worlds.
