I just posted requiring help with valuing a shasqua but i have another sword i would like some info on if anyone's got it. All i know is it has the Royal Artillery engraved on it so its british and i was told its early 20th century when i bought it. On the blade it has 1811 stamp but i think that can't be the date as it seems to old. It appears to be a dress or parade sword as it hasn't been sharpened at all and has lots of blade detail. Any thoughts of what it is and value etc?

Dave Kelly, correct me if I'm wrong XD
I'm going to guess that it's a George V or VI sword from the 20th century, Royal Artillery hilt and etchings on the 1895 thrusting blade. In that condition might be worth 2-3 hundred quid, but again not sure.

It is definitely an Artillery Officers dress sword, although I'm not educated on the blade specs. What I do know is that many of the markings on this are still etched into current officers swords (mine included, although GR is now ER of course). It looks genuine so i doubt the date stamp is a forgery. It's a little beat up for a dress sword which will certainly have an impact on value; but I've seen them go for £600+ on auction sites. Keep it in good nick that's for sure.

Forgot to add a note the blade is untouched but the guard appears to have had rust removal and a lacquer coating incase this knocks the value down.

It is authentic for sure (1811 is the attributed no for an officer), the value for that one should go at least 350$ and up, more if you can track the officer it was issued to.

A 1821 pattern or GVR (Georges V) artillery officer sword should be just fine.
