Hello everyone I'm sure there are posted ways to do this, but hearing about the endless wax build up comments lately i'll share my idea of what i did as a better alternative than useing a rag & a wire coat hanger. I bought this bristle brush at Lowe's for like $4.00 was in the cleaning section with mops etc. It's bristle's measure 24" long( has a rubber tip) just the right amount of flexability soft enough to not make scratches yet firm enough bristle's to rotate inside the saya & use an in and out motion . It's a perfect fit to brush against the inside walls, Every couple of strokes pull it out & tap the saya upside down and Poof build up comes out. for remaining inches that it doesn't reach i bought a small one ( $1.99) cut it then Duct taped it to the end of a piece of wood molding i had and used in the same manner( used the smaller one first of course) It's like the daddy Long Leg of brushes took me under 10 mins DONE ! Has been wax free since December

Wait... why on earth is there a problem with wax build up in people's saya? I've personally owned over 70 katana and have handled hundreds of them. I've never had a problem with wax building up in my saya.

From what I understand, some forges will line the saya with wax to prevent oil from the blade soaking into the wood. I have two with that problem, in fact, so I'm off to Lowe's just as soon as I can manage.
