cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... TQ:US:1123 My sword is listed as a - "FUNCTIONAL SOE-BI T10 FOLDED YOKOTE DARK RED SAYA SWORD"that is a bit of a mouthful... And I really dont understand most of that name. "FUNCTIONAL", must refer to the fact that it's a sharp sword. "SOE-BI", I dont have a clue what is talking about? "T10 FOLDED', is talking about the type of steel and that it was folded. "YOKOTE", I again have no clue what that is talking about? "DARK RED SAYA", is the scabbard anyone able to translate the name of my sowrd into normal-speak?

Here is my take: Functional, designed for tameshigiri; Soe-Bi, refers to the dual Bo-hi cut into the Shinogi-ji; Yokote, refers to the geometric angle that is the demarcation between the Ha and the Boshi of the Kissaki.
From my own perspective, I give all my Katana names. The name they get depends on the astetics of the Katana and how each one feels in my hands and calls to me. Some of my swords names, in English: Fly Cutter, Small Mountain Wind, War Wind.

I dunno. Looks like a Frank to me.
Alan: yes the yokote and the so-bi are as Chinook Kaze describes. A geometric yokote is something not often seen on sub-$300 swords, so has become a popular selling point for Hua Wei.
I'm noticing how much more crisp their hi termination looks. Points to Hua Wei for that. Wonder if their end knots have improved as much?

Bert, frank, jethro...what's in a name? Frankly, I would shirley love to see C. Kaze's "mushigiri"! K-alan, may I recommend this site for your enlightenment? It is pretty much the online Japanese sword lexicon. Tons of solid sword education there. The terminology and glossary are a great startinng place. home.earthlink.net/~steinrl/glossry.htmIt will bring you up to speed quickly with extensive self study and is a fabulous reference resource.

A name? Let's see: If you take the first letter from each word in "FUNCTIONAL SOE-BI T10 FOLDED YOKOTE DARK RED SAYA SWORD", you have . . . FSBTFYDRSS.
. . . and there you have it! Your sword's name is, "Fsbtfydrss."

I smiled for Bert...
Congrats, for that sword Alan, have to say I'm really impressed of the quality that HuaWei pulls off considering the price. It really payed off to throw around few questions.
I just usually use the usual maker - model names if production swords are in question. Then if it's a production sword but one-of-a-kind or semi-customized, you can just add title custom to it. When special characteristics are added into name it gets too complicated. I prefer short names that give out the maker but not much more information.
I would call this HuaWei Custom or HuaWei Custom Katana, yep pretty boring name but gives out all the useful information. Gives out the maker and states that you'll not easily see similar looking sword anywhere even if you search for it. Sometimes if you feel like boasting you could add the folded in the mix, oh that's just my HuaWei Folded Custom...
Calling it custom would be in my opinion easiest option. Of course you can make some fancy name for it, or call it HuaWei Functional Soe-bi T10 Folded Yokote Dark Red Saya Sword Katana, or Bert...

Thanks for the information about the different terms.
I noticed that I was having trouble finding reviews of my sword on the SBG website because I actually did not know what to call my sword.
My little 2nd sword has a very easy name "The Bamboo warrior", so that sword is easy to find reviews on the forum about.
But I have had no luck at all finding a review of a "FUNCTIONAL SOE-BI T10 FOLDED YOKOTE DARK RED SAYA SWORD"

Just search for reviews on Huawei Katana. None of them are by a "sword name" and you may not find one exactly like yours, but you will get a feel for how their swords have felt to other forum members and their experiences with their Huawei product and the company's service.

Bob-thats what I call my soups when a waitress asks me-"What do you call this??"Each of my katanas have a name which I gave to them after cutting and handling them-Shima Tora(white tiger)-etc-theres a thread somewhere in here about sword names-I will look for it after I have a few more coffees.

Thanks for all the info...
I was just interested in looking for reviews of my sword, and found it had to search for it under any name.
But I will just keep in eye out for any Huawei reviews and be happy with that.
On a side note: I have decided to call my two swords by the names "The T-10" ...and the Bamboo warrior will be called ..."The Little Sister"
