I am considering purchasing this sword it is united model # UC2580 . This sword sells for $219.00 at Smoky mountain , $164.95 at KOA but only $99.99 at Bud K. I did a bit of research on the forum and I find that Bud K and United swords are not highly regarded in general. However the sword seems to be a bit of a bargain at $99.99. Some on this forum do not think Damascus blades in this price range offer any advantage and could be prone to failure. I could not find much information on this particular sword in the way of reviews but it seems pretty nice in the KOA photos. Does anyone have any insight on the "United Black" series ? Or this sword in particular ? Or am I better off spending my $99.99 on a Musashi 1060 ?

I would say you would be much better off with a Musashi. However I believe forum member sir tre has experience with United, you may want to drop him a pm.As for it being "damascus",its more likely a lasered on pattern.

I reviewed a United Black Shikyo. Here's the review, if you haven't read it already: www.sword-buyers-guide.com/Unite ... eview.html My advice? If you're looking for a low-cost katana with non-traditional fittings at that price, buy one. The look is unique, and as a result I don't think it would be let into a dojo anytime soon. For the materials that went into its construction, its pretty well-built. For that price, I've seen worse blades. --Edward

Do you like tachi koshirae in particular or just any sword? As far as I know Musashi swords don't have a tachi in their selection.
Is this so for decoration use or are you planning to use it?
Zhisword has some reasonably priced tachi, and Sinosword has some tachi in their selection. These two would be my recommendations for cheap tachi.
