is mine!
Hello all,
I've always had a facination with weapons of all kinds. Firearms, swords, blunt edge weapons, etc. I'm intrigued that a smith can spend hours forging a piece of steel that ends up as a beautiful elegant weapon. My favorite types of swords are katanas. Something about their sleekness and power they posses intrigues me.
Years ago I purchased a DSA LOTR sword because I am a fan of LOTR. Never used it and it sat in its sheath. I felt it was a big purchase considering it was around $300 plus shipping. I still have that though. I've been reinterested in edged weapons and decided I wanted to get a katana. I wanted something capable of being used for what it was intended, not just a wall hanger. I thought I was going to have to spend upwards of $800, but was suprised to see well made blades far below that.
I found this site and did some research and read reviews. I ordered a Ronin Dojo Pro #2 katana the beginning of this week and I should see it next Tuesday. I think I made the right decision. As it seems to be the right combo of steel, edge, fittings, and overall package. I have no real martial arts training or anything except two years of Tae Kwon Do when I was a young teenager. I'm 28 now. My main interest is firearms and I try to shoot each week weather it is handguns, AR-15s or bolt action rifles. I do compete around the state in plate shooting as well.
I'm very excited to pick up some mat (I forget the name currently) to cut with in the backyard. I have some cardboard as well to play around with. I'm looking forward to learning all the different names of the pieces. I plan to pick up a book or two on japanese swords on Amazon.
Safety is my number one concern with swords, as it is with firearms. Expect some hi res photos when the blade arrives. I am a photographer after all
I've had a few other custom knives, none of these which I own anymore.
I look forward to learning and hopefully contributing to the forum in some way. I'm already wondering what my second katana should be. I want something a bit higher end and more polished, but still a user first and foremost. I think if I can hold out, a Ronin Dojo Elite may be up my ally. If you have suggestions up to $1k, i'm all ears.I plan to wait at least a few months to see how I like my first one.
