Defects in bronze casting - are such defects of casting permissible? Maybe it is a fake? Thanks. Attachments:

Not sure if it's bronze, guard such as these were mostly made of brass. Assuming it is the latter, its not uncommon to see. If you really want to know if its a repro, it's always best to show the rest of the sword (blade, marks, leather grip etc.) The fact it is dated to the last day of the July Revolution or 3 Glorieuses is a good (but not absolute) indication that it is a legit piece, at least the guard.

OK. Pictures are included. Only - this is the first time I see so poor casting. I was surprised.

Karlo: I absolutely adore french armes blanche. About 1/4 of my collection is french military. While I hardly wish to discourage your posts here, for that reason, I'm perplexed why someone with a rare ways and means to examine high end collectibles such as these, is polling such a lowly forum as this for opinions on swords anyone here has only seen photos of? As I've never handled or seen any of the Municiple Garde sabers I wouldn't know whether this saber is consistent in Klingenthal output for the period or not. Thanks for sharing.

Im jealous. Congratulations. Out of curiosity could you provide some information as to the weapons overall weight, point of balance, length of blade and opinion of how it handles. Don't have a 37 inch garde de bataille, but do have a cavalry officer de Ligne 4 bar. It actually handles very well. I would expect the same of this sword, unless the hilt casting is too heavy. Cheers
