I am very curious as to how you discovered this bit of information.

i had a hermit crab once...his semprini piles were tiny! jokes aside, ive gotta add that i spent all of today messing around dry handling the greatsword after fixing the safety issues, and its really growing on me, the handling is excelent, the balance seems perfect, its blade heavy but not in a bad way, and fixing the handle issues has taken alot of the flop out of the blade, it might flex 1 or 2 centimeters to an inch on a particularly hard cut, but its deff not the whippy noodle it was with that poorly fit grip. Im actually contemplating sinking 200-300$ in this thing and having VA's CSS work it over..i like it that much. Im thinking Malatesta styled scabbard belt and grip, in Dark grey >__>

my brother was pissed off at its floppiness and sold it to me for 180 -____- he said he had to make a profit for pain and suffering. He also demanded that i don't charge him for the Ranger Knife ive been working on for him...that was gonna be 60 bucks. AND he wants a war axe now...

I was gonna have my bro do a review of the sword, but his review was really short...and not family friendly "No matter how awesome i make this thing look it will always be Floppy just like my %$#^&"

 Not to put to fine a point on it... but your brother sounds like a real winner. :? He needed to make a profit on you? WTF? As for the knife... I'd tell him 'Ok, you get nothing and like it.' Gezz. With Family like that... who needs internet trolls.

hahaha yeah Sean, hes a little semprini, one of the new generation self entitled. "i want it all, now, and i dont care how" he deff wasn't raised like me and my sis were. I'm like dude i spent 3 weeks trying to find you a sword, and my friend bent over backwards to sell it to you at fair price and you complain, Now you want profit too? I've got news for him though, my dads been eyeballing that Ranger knife and seeks to make fair offer >___>
Lesson learned though, despite him being the way he is, i thought it might be good to get him into swords since he seemed genuinely interested, But he clearly has yet to distinguish a real sword from fake movie semprini. He thinks a sword should be 5-8 lbs, no flex, and be able to smash through concrete blocks with no damage. I told him he needs to do more research before he makes a purchase again.

I was like that too when I got started... a lot of us were i think. We have preconceptions of whats swords should be built of Hollywood or D&D or both... 5-6 years ago I would have looked at the H/T GSoW next to a Gen 2 Ranger Sword and said 'This H/T is a POS... gimme that Ranger.' Maybe have him buy a used Gen 2 or Darksword Armory Great Sword... not one of the newer ones as they have been getting lighter... an old school one that was like 6-8 lbs. He might dig it. I know i did... 5-6 years ago.

Sonny will turn that critter into a whole nuther animal.
After handling the Valiant rework, the original really loses a bit of its luster. The point reprofiling that Sonny does is where it's at man.

I got a GSOW and mine is sharp. Slightly floppy, but my opinion on this is that you have to put it in context: this is the second Big Sword historically, the first being the viking spike-hilt (gaddhjalt). Vikings, Franks, Saxons seemed to highly value flexibility in sword blades (maybe not longseax blades). So this critter might be viewed as coming out of that tradition instead of a more refined pointy/stabby possibly stiff longsword. Just the way I view 'floppy' weapons sometimes. There can be some historical precedence for it, sometimes. Also, a freaking big sword, like a 'sveihander' generally does have some real sag to the blade, no matter how people seem to dislike it. Man, Euro swords are so variable all you can solidly say is that there were trends among some types.
I raved about the GSOW to my old sparring partner and he got one and his experience was the opposite. His cross moved on it's own when the hilt was fully tightened. Dismounting the blade to fix it he found what he called "a Frankenstein tang that looked like IG-88's head" (Star Wars reference). Rather than send it to me to try and salvage it he gave it away.
Incidentally I always thought that the term 'greatsword' in this period was because most people didn't have a two-handed weapon, and this was a good description. I still think this, but after getting my GSOW I have a better appreciation of the type. I have a 'sveihander' and a custom 65 inch Goliath Fightbook greatsword by A&A. The GSOW, even though it is the size of my longswords FEELS like a greatsword. This is a hard hitting weapon. I also kind of like the popsicle-stick blade shape. It's really grown on me.
