The cries of my celtic ancesters can be ignored no longer, I must have a falcata! (or something like it) Something no frills, practical and tough. The one from Gen 2 looks like a good deal, anyone have any other suggestions? I'd also like input on quality spearheads.

Del Tin makes a cool falcata with a bronze hilt. The one from Gen 2 should be pretty tough but it seems a bit overweight and the Del Tin is probably more historically accurate.

The Del Tin falcata handles well but hilt construction is not historical, the hilt should not be a cast piece of metal slided on a tang and then peened. Falcata should have a full width tang with grip slabs riveted to the sides of the tang. Here is a very good topic about historical falcata and kopis swords: www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic ... nstruction

The various kopis from scorpian swords looks interesting but I don't know much about the company.

The best way to really get a historical falcata right now is to have it custom made. Scorpion Swords are pretty good people to approach about this as they've already made similar blades; Tinker Pearce also has made a couple.

The Del Tin is a good, solid sword, but historically accurate it's not. The Scorpion swords seem to be somewhat better in that regard, but are still pretty basic. Another option is here: www.dioskouri.com/Kopis.php . The damascus ones will cost you, but he can make a mono-steel version for a very reasonable price.

For a truly excellent piece, I would contact Mr. Tinker over at tinkerswords.com/These run about $1100 a pop though. Not quite sure what price range you're going for, but his stuff is about the best I've seen of a good falcata/ kopis. This would definitely be your high-end custom; if that's what you're going for.

Apologies for the Double post, but I've recently stumbled upon, what appears to be another great craftsman- Paul Howell. If you haven't already seen his work, his website is paulholwell.webnode.com// Check out his work. From an artistic perspective, his work seems top notch, very high quality. (Note: I have not had personal experience with him, I'm going off of people over at the Romanarmy forum, so keep that in mind) Here's a sample of his work regarding swords. A lot more HQ images over at his site. He's UK based, and I believe his work goes for around £500 + Shipping, approx $800 USD + Shipping. At that price point, I think these are definitely something worth looking into. My only concern is the functionality of these pieces, as far as heat treat/ durability goes. Something you might want to look into if you decide to go with him. From what I've read, he's relatively easy to contact and talk to. In conclusion, a completely custom, "the way you want it" sword, with sheath, shipped for around $800USD. Edit: Sorry, I accidentally converted the currency as if it was euros, price has been fixed, and is ~800USD as of Apr 9, 2012. Conversion factor: $1.6 = £1

I know what you mean about the call of the falcata, it is near the top of my list for my next purchase. As far as which one to choose, I can't help much there. I can tell you that I have a Gen2 (LA) maintz gladius, and I feel that it is the best of it's kind for the price range, so I can't see you being disappointed with their falcata. Both the Gen2 falcata and gladius don't seem to be very historically accurate though, if that is important to you. Despite my great interest in history, I often find more satisfaction in modern adaptations of ancient swords as opposed to historically accurate versions. All of the posts above make great suggestions. I would be apprehensive of anything Del Tin based on reviews I have read, but I cannot personally speak to their product, so that opinion may be unfounded. Good luck, and be sure that whatever you decide on you post on here so we can all have a gander!

I just want to apologize for my comment about Del Tin. I was thinking of Depeeka, I have no knowledge whatsoever concerning Del Tin. Sorry for any confusion.
