Very nice. I believe that the Musashi Shirakawa line is great, especially for a first-time buyer. Thanks for sharing.

I may go with another Musashi, perhaps a Hanwei or Ronin. Im not sure. Id like to get something thats supposed to be "better" to see if I can really notice a difference. Also, I read that a longer blade would be better for someone of my height (6'5"). So maybe I might try a longer bladed katana and see how that feels.

Well I havent handled a Hanwei yet, but own a few ronin's now. The difference you notice will not be much. If you wanted to see a difference, shouldn't have gotten a great buy of a katana first time around!

From what I have used so far, you will notice the most difference with either a KC or Cheness Tenchi. KC feeling better and the Tenchi feeling worse. If its your second, the Tenchi is extrememly durable. The KC handles wicked good. Just my 2 cents, every has what they like and dont like.

If you want a bigger sword, I understand that the Cheness O-Katana is fairly decent for the price. Worth a try. It also comes in a shirasaya version if you want to try going full semi-custom!

I dont know what shirasaya means =[ Is the Tenchi the spring steel? I would like a KC-29 perhaps. With a bo-hi.
Also, I want to name my first sword. It has the bamboo themed fittings and is called the bamboo warrior. I was thinking Tanomoshii, or Reliable, because bamboo is such a useful thing.

Shirasaya is the plain wood scabbard and handle. Not functional, though quite often they are used to store/transport good blades. The Koshirae is like the blades dress up outfit, suit and tie so to speak. has the well wrapped handle, tsuba and a protective saya w/ attachment point. the Shirasaya is like the jeans n tshirt for the sword. supposebly the un coated wood is better for the metal on the sword, and its made for the wood portions to be able to be split, cleaned and reassembled. this keeps gunk from building up inside the shirasaya and another reason they are used for storage and transport.
The tenchi is 9260 spring steel. My KC 26III handles fantastic. Surprised it me cut so well because the handling does not have much blade presents to it.

Kris Cutlery Katana 26 & 29 series can easily be identified by length – Katana 26 has a 26 inch blade; Katana 29 has a 29 inch blade. The next designation is in reference to the blade itself:
Katana 26/29 A – no groove on the blade Katana 26/29 II – long grooves on both sides of the blade Katana 26/29 III- one single short groove near the habaki on the left side onlyThe II are regular bo-hi. The III are the huge short bo-hi on one side.
(It was on the top of the katana list page. I swear it didnt show up the first time when I just went there to confirm for you.) They got a 29II in the scratch and dent section if you can stand a couple spots on the blade for a SLIGHTLY heavier wallet.

Cool thanks...I am not sure I can order from their site though...No part of their website appears to be secure or encrypted so not sure if it is safe

Kris Cutlery is very good about that. You can also order via phone and they do not keep your information on file. I did it that way, and both Cecil and Christina are very nice to work with.

I didnt even notice lol. I saw the https links but didnt take note of the security signals in the browser window. but as adrian pointed out you can call them. I ordered my waki online and did not get any funky charges. Or you can wait because I will probably put my KC daisho up for sale when its done But you would have to settle for a KC 26III katana and a long long long wait.

I decided to name her Takeko. It means bamboo child. I thought it was fitting. I then googled Takeko and came across this... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakano_TakekoNow I know I chose the right name!
