So, I've decided to try out some balisong. I already ordered a Bradley Kimura tanto just to get started out, but my birthday's coming up and I'm thinking about getting something a little nicer.
I absolutely love the Benchmade model 42, it's popularity doesn't surprise me in the least. It's been discontinued but I've been told that you can still find them in the box secondhand. However, so far I haven't come across one place that has one in stock, even Ebay. The one's I found on forums (already sold) usually go for $300-400. I wanted to nab one before they all disappear or move out of price range, but has that already happened?

Yea they do crop up a lot on bladeforums but they are a bit pricey. I think the 154cm blade goes for that range of price while the 440C is much cheaper. I think you're a bit too late for it unless you jump on one that the BF forumite puts it out what he paid for it No idea when the BM 62 comes out but that is very impressive (supposed to be this year) www.bladeforums.com/forums/showt ... Model-62!!! A looky at it at SHOT outdoorchannel.com/Events/SHOT20 ... YCwCj2JYkE

Ah, that BM 62 is pretty fine. The only thing I don't understand is the blade, how the width decreases suddenly towards the tang. Does that serve any sort of purpose? I can't see how it'd do anything but make it look a bit different and (negligibly) decrease the strength of the blade at that point.

That's where the blade stop pins meet up with the blade to keep it from closing to far and touching the edge on the handles.
