Hey guys, I can't make up my mind between these two swords. How do they stack up as far as balance, build, and steel? I would love to hear from anyone who has handled one or both swords. Thanks!

I own the Hanwei Cutting jian and I can definitely recommend it. The handling feels excellent; fast yet substantial. The overall quality of construction is very good. The CS gim seems like a good one too but I haven't handled it.
I had the exact same dilemma as you a while back but went with the Hanwei jian for 2 reasons: Longer handle (sort of a hand and a half) and the look of the fittings. The CS gim loses a point for looks in my opinion but gains a point for better blade finish. The Hanwei blade has a rather rough, utilitarian finish. Yup, it's a tough choice. I guess the biggest difference between the two is the handle length. I hope this helps a bit.

I have a CS Gim that I bought recently, and I like it, but there are a few minor problems with it. It came fairly dull, and the fittings were epoxied, which might have been a recent change. I've since sharpened it, and while the epoxy bothered me a bit at the start but I don't really mind it now. I do like the fittings though, and the blade came with a mirror polish that was very well done.
I've only handled the Hanwei cutting jian briefly but I like its handling better. The CS gim has a beefier blade than the Hanwei cutting jian, but it does feel more blade heavy.

I've heard the same, the CS Gim is built quite solid like most of the CS swords (some people say they are overbuilt, which makes them heavier but real solid cutters), I wanted something that handled well, so I bought the Hanwei Cutting Jian, it's minimalist, and the blade finish is not as nicely done as the CD Gim, but its a nice, well made sword.

I have the CS GIm and I like it alot, just a couple things, the pommel is too large in diameter for my taste and gets in the way of some movements, and the handle could use a wrap , so I grip wrapped it. Other than that it is a good, solid, nicely polished blade. I think it is slightly thicker than the Cutting jian so better for piercing hoods of cars LOL at their promo video!
I wish the Hanwei Cutting Jian came with the CS GIm blade! I like the look of the Cutting Jian better! Plus I would like to have the ability to do more two handed techniques!
a recent review on youtube for the cutting jian
the cs promo video lol
it's good to watch then simultaneously to compare and contrast..... you can see how much better the Hanwei one looks IMHO
