I have an old kukri that i picked up at a gunshow a few weeks ago, its well aged, the blade says "DHARAN NEPAL --87" the first part of the date has a small patch of rust. Anywho i would like to restore this knife to its former glory, the handle is worn as is the blade, i plan on doing a simple polish of the blade. Im not sure how to approach the wood handle. Do i sand it? also the buttcap is a bit loose, probably going to inject it with epoxy. Any advice would be helpful

That's a pretty aswesome score. Depending on how deep the rust goes, you can probably get away with using 400 grit sandpaper.

Mmmm, can you post a Macro shot of the handle and blade individually? (I'm one to talk about macro's with my cruddy cell phone cam eh?) It looks like the handle has a fairly large chip in the finish further down; not quite sure what to do about it, but if you can provide a close up of it to view the extent of the wear it would definitely help.
