Buy it if you can right now. It's a great sword, especially for $120, but runs into competition at its normal price

And corrected it they did. I’ll tell you all, I am looking hard at this one. I have been wanting to add a long and a short sword to my collection and was looking at early next year as a target date. I have been looking at other manufacturer’s short swords but at this price and since this seems to be about everyone’s favourite I am strongly thinking about straining the budget and treating myself to a Christmas gift from me. Definitely do, I'm loving mine. Great balance and stiff blade. Just did a review on this one check it out if you want to see details and close up pics. sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/46119/windlass-oakeshott-type-sword-reviewMy top three Windlass swords would be this one, the Roven and the European in any order.

Do we also get to take another 10% off with our SBG discount ? If so it's a no brainer.

Not a lot of short riding swords or type XIV blades floating around $300. Next up would be the Ronin #4 or Legacy Arms Knightly Riding Sword, both of those though are Type XVI profile and in my opinion don't seem to be as well constructed or durable judging pics and reviews. Your next options for a XIV or Short Riding Sword would be DSA or Del Tin and they're in the $400 mark.

Just answered my own question, YES you can still use your SBG discount. I just ordered one $119 including shipping. Now for a regrip when it comes. DANG, I wish these great deals would stop popping up, first the RK at KOA now this. I'm suppose to be saving up for my Suontaka.

OK, I did it. I know you guys are basing you thoughts on MRL’s sale price. It is good, no dispute there, and was certainly the deciding factor. However, by the time I receive the sword you can more than double that price. It was a real toss up as to whether have MRL sharpen or do it myself. Rightly or not I opted for MRL to sharpen. I only want 19” of the blade sharpened and saw nowhere to put this request although months back (year?) they said to add such request to the order. I sent an email about 10-15 minutes after ordering with my request. To tell the truth I am having second thoughts about them sharpening. I can do it and perhaps a bit better but as I do it by hand it is time consuming and I have another project at the moment trying my patience. nddave I had previously read your article and any others that I could find concerning this class of sword. The Windlass was a strong contender but at that price it wasn’t much of a brainer, only whether I should spend the money at this time. It was a good write up.

You got to love companies like MRL and KOA that ship orders the same day they receive them. Just got an e-mail that the order has been shipped. Not that you needed to be informed about this I just didn't like keeping my number of posts at 666 on Friday the 13th.

I need to be informed of shipping as that allows me to start the importation process. If I have the paper work in their hands before a shipment’s arrival I get a slight discount off the paper processing. Yes both MRL and KoA are great at prompt shipping.

Bugger. I was trying not to buy any more swords for a while. The mix up with the website doesn't give much time to decide either.

I'm actually basing my thoughts on it including the shipping. We're at similar ends here. Shipping for this was around $60. I also opted for MRL sharpening. Total cost was around $180 simply because I didn't have to haggle with customs. Absolutely worth it (and more IMO). The sharpening was quite good too, though once I have enough time I'll be blending the bevel just to soften the abrupt ridge the sharpening creates. At the very least I think this is the best one handed sword of Windlass (overall construction, design, and execution).
