5-1/2 pounds for a coif??? Damn---my mail coif is riveted and only weighs about 2-1/2 pounds. Does MRL's chainmail have some extra-gravitational properties?

These are EXCELLENT to wear under a mail coif and helmet. Especially if you live in a warmer climate area. You can also dye them any color you want. Unless you have a VERY large head, just get the S/M size. Matter of fact, get two. They're great for everyday wear as a winter hood.

Now thanks to you I’ll have four. Oh well, it’s only money. Hehe

Yeah, I really like my coif, too. I would say though, that you have to consider the size of any helm you might use with it before ordering. I have a conical helm that I was using simple padding and a sort of linen coif with for a time, and it worked fine. Then, I ordered this MRL padded coif, because I wanted something a bit more realistic. It is thick, and somewhat big. Now, my helm is super tight! Also, it makes me look like I have a huge, fat neck. LOL
Just something to consider. It is a thick coif, so the fit of your mail coif and helm will be affected.

I'll have to pass on this one. Get a Cold Steel 'hawk instead. Give it a 'reboot', by sanding/grinding off the ugly black paint, sanding and staining the handle... maybe a little leather or cord wrap....yee-uh.

That’s about equal to giving CS hawk a steroid shot.

1/13 Maille Coif $ 79.00 www.museumreplicas.com/heros-mail-armor-coifDon't forget the promo code SBGWEB for that additional 10% off Last time a coif was on the DOD there was a question on the posted weight. This one has a fairly heavy weight listed too but I believe they are talking shipping weight not actual weight of just the coif.

I'm predicting the Pilsen or Musketeer rapier. I might pick up the Pilsen if its a good deal, I like rapiers with simpler hilts.
