Hi Everybody
I was just wondering if anybody knows details about the Warlord Da Dao, like has anybody ever taken it apart? Is it full Tang? And anybody know what kind of steel it's made from?
I am embarrassed to say I damaged mine ages ago with a stuffed up, horribly wonky side-stepping horizontal cut at against a pumpkin! The blade bent and the guard came loose! I could peek in through the guard and the tang looked really small to me...anyway I bent the blade back into shape and epoxied the guard together, and it has been cutting fine ever since...Luckily no more stuff ups on my part! *touch wood* ANd many pumpkins have been dispatched!
Anyway with such a hard core Dao (I've seen a video on youtube of a guy cutting part of a cinder block with it!, the video title says Cold Steel war sword, but it is obviously a Hanwei Warlord) I was surprised at how small the tang looked!
Anyway I haven't had any more issues, but in the back of my mind, with the previous damage and the peek at what to me looked like a small tang, I would hate for the Da Dao to become a flying guillotine/ helicopter of death!!

Are you talking about the Military Dadao with the small guard, or the other dadao with the cord-wrapped grip and the large brass guard?
The Military is much more robust, I think. As far as I know the Warlord is more of a CMA display weapon. It's probably carbon steel; I would put it in the "functional if you want it to be" category that several of Hanwei's Chinese weapons fall into. The Military is much more practical.

FUAAA!!!!!!! HOOOOLEEEEE COWW!!!! awesome review! Karma for you! Yea actually the tang looks similar to the Warlord Da Dao...I guess it just looks small compared to the massive blade , as opposed to a katana blade/tang width ratio...

I'm very surprised that the blade would bend that easy. I have had the Warlord Dadao from Hanwei for well over a decade and I have abused the hell out of it, but it takes it all in stride. The only problem Ive had with it is the brass guard has come lose.

well, imagine the worst possible side stepping cut in the world and multiply it by 1000.....the pumpkin went flying with a chip taken out of it....
No sword can withstand idiocy of that magnitude!

I'm glad to see my review still circulating.
I was incredibly surprised when I had taken the hilt off the Dadao and I don't even think that the one that I reviewed would have minded to much if I would have slapped a pumpkin with the flat of the blade... ok, maybe something like that, yeah.
Sadly tho, I have since dismantled that sword once again and it's now in limbo waiting for me to start doing projects again. I have a LOVELY idea for it, but I just need to find the motivation to start it.

Yea I see the Military Da Dao is about twice as thick as the Warlord Da Dao! awesome! It wasn't actually bent too bad, more the Brass guard that came loose, and I haven't had any problems since. Your blade and guard definitely look beefier so it probably would have shrugged off that cut no problem! You need to get it back together and let it do its thing!
