Ok, so I have lurked around this forum for quite some time and decided that, hell, why not start posting. You're a friendly bunch after all.
My name is Paul. I'm 24 and from Long Island, New York (GO GIANTS!!) and I'm an alcoholic...just kidding lol. Although, I did try the new Bud Light Platinum after all of those Super Bowl commercials and I don't even know how i feel about it... but that could very well be the increase in alcohol percentage talking lol. I'm rather new to the sword community. I started about this time last year. I currently have..
- Hanwei/Tinker Viking sword
- Practical Castille with the updated 3/4 taper blade
- DSA Anduril (which came with the most miserable sharpening. Even an Accusharp looks better than what it came with)
- Valiant Armory Practical Longsword
- Valiant Armory new Bastard sword
- Valiant Armory Hedemark (on preorder)
- DSA one-handed Norman
- Windlass Viking Seax
- Allan Foundry Bearded Viking axe (all because I sat and read every single review Avery has done. Big fan of his lol.)
I'm considering putting a VA Malatesta or Templar on pre order and considering a sharpened Albion Squire Line Vinland. I know I have a long ways to go before I can get a nice collection like all of you. Once TomK's site goes back up from maintenance I'm considering an ATrim as well. It's so easy to lose yourself in this hobby and spend more money than what you make!! It's all about self-control...
I would say my biggest interest would be one-handed swords. Medieval or Viking, but I have a real soft spot for nice Viking swords. Maybe I just prefer type X blades? I realized I kept getting all one-handers and decided I needed to branch out a bit, hence the mulling over the Malatesta and Templar.
I suppose a decent question would be a nice way to spark some interest in this post and give us all something to discuss, as I'm sure you aren't too concerned with the smaller details of my life. =P Ok... so I've been trying to up to better quality swords in my collection. That would be why I have an increase in my VA collecting.. they're beautiful and work like a charm. What would you, the community, suggest I do to either stay on this track or step it up further? I know Albion has the Squire Line and there are Del Tins that can be sharpened. What advice can you, the pros, give?
If you made it this far to the bottom of my post than THANK YOU for tuning in so long!!
