hey there my names Johnathon great forum.. i have lost too many hours with the wealth of info here,,drives the misses crazy but i tell her it a part of my training on the pluss side make up sex is never bad... ive been useing wooden bokkens up till now as i practice katori shinto ryu 3 times a week and i use the dojos Iaidos when i need. now i have graduated to using a sharp shinken we do not do tameshigir in this country or at least in oslo so im not looking for a heavy cutter, more something well balanced and traditional i must add that im an australian living in oslo, norway and there are not so many people into this art over here,, norweigans are more into cross country skying, and getting drunk !!! and theres even less places to buy or get good information on katanas over here.our sensei is from japan and has hand made katanas from japan truely awesome swords,,she had directed me to some importers here but sill are well beyond my price range i have read most of the sbg`s guides and recommendations but i am still wanting everything and everything ha ha ha.i know that the ronin dojo and dojo pro are hot itums and im leaning towards the cheness kaze only because of the hamond there are so many more manufactures and designs hanwei, musashi, hand made, cold steel the list goes on can be a bit daunting i guess i need to have something bad to appreciate some thing good... but i would rather it be the other way around,, cause for me right now its all prices and pictures and no hands on experience guess you all been where i am now.... so any imput would be much appreciated thank

Hello. The Kaze is a solid choice. With the recent price increases on all Hanwei swords, the other options are starting to look more appealing. Check out Dynasty Forge, Ronin Katana, and Kris Cutlery. They all make decent katanas in the $300 range.

I have a Kaze and I'm very happy with it. There are some things about it that bug me, as they are found on many production swords, but one that cost much less than it. These include lower quality seppa and non-alternating ito(though it is okay quality ito and the wrap is nice and tight.) The hamon is very nice, and the blade is very, very stout. It is well made and the fit is good. I wish that it was a bit cheaper, but it is still a pretty good but for its price.
I also have a Kris Cutlery 26III and a Ronin Dojo(the 1045 version.) Both are great swords, and well worth the prices. The Kris is especially good if you want to do some customization, as it is a pretty blank slate. Its fittings look plain, but are very good quality. The Ronin Dojo Pro looks amazing, and my Dojo is one of my favorite swords to cut with.
